Who is Bob McKenzie?

Bob McKenzie is a well-known journalist. Bob McKenzie has ascended through the ranks to become the most well-known sportscaster in the NHL. Aside from that, he is a draft expert and has worked for TSN as a draft expert.

Bob’s passion and work ethic have motivated him to improve with each passing day, despite the fact that he is still employed as a TSN commentator at the age of 64.

Early Years

Bob McKenzie was born on August 16, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario, to his parents, Bob Sr. and Maureen Mckenzie. There are no other data about his childhood available.

However, we do know that Bob attended Bendale Public School before enrolling at Toronto’s Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Mckenzie earned a journalism degree because he aspired to work in sports media.

Bob McKenzie was born in the year 1956, which makes his age 64 years currently.

Although people might think that McKenzie is a bit old to be working, contrarily, he recently signed a new five-year deal with TSN.

Besides, Bob stands at 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 93 kg, which is overweight for his height.

Salary & Net Worth

As of 2022, Bob McKenzie has a net worth of around $11 million accrued mainly through his commentating prowess with TSN.

One might feel that it is the players who earn the big bucks, but in Bob’s case, it seems like he makes just as much if not more than most other players in the NHL.

Likewise, being Twitter’s no.1 choice for analysis and breaking news with over 1.6 million followers means that you must be getting paid thousands of dollars.

And that is precisely the case with the 64-year-old as he earns a yearly salary of $500,000.

Professional Career

Mckenzie’s first full-time newspaper career began in 1979 when he was employed by the Sault Star.  Bob chose to go on to bigger things after two years of learning and honing his craft.

Furthermore, he believed he was prepared to take on senior-level positions. Following that, the Toronto native got a job as a copy editor in the sports department of The Globe and Mail.

During his tenure there, though, the draft expert never felt at ease or respected. As a result, the 64-year-old quit his job and began looking for a new one.

Fortunately, his quest was cut short when he was offered the position of editor-in-chief at The Hockey News, which he had always desired. As a result, now he’s discovered his dream career.

Bob worked for the organization for nine years before becoming a hockey columnist for the Toronto Star.

On the one hand, McKenzie had built a reputation as a talented writer and editor in the hockey community. On the other hand, he was relatively unknown among the general public.

It all changed, though, when the Canadian writer was assigned to cover the Tampa Bay Lighting’s dressing room. To explain, when Bob refused to leave the room, he got into a fight with Phil Esposito.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after, and the 64-year-old filed a complaint against Tampa Bay, citing assault as the cause.

Mckenzie then left the Toronto Star and returned to The Hockey News, believing that his employers did not support him in the lawsuit.

Bob then spent the next three years on The Sports Network (TSN), appearing in half-hour segments until he was hired as a CHL analyst (Canadian Hockey League).

Since then, the 64-year-old has been with the TSN organization appearing in various roles.

For his outstanding contributions to the media department, McKenzie was awarded the Gemini Award for Best Studio Analyst in 2008.

Likewise, Bob also earned the 2015 Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award, selected by the Professional Hockey Writer Association.

Furthermore, the Toronto native also won the Best Sports Analyst at the 2016 Canadian Screen award.

And finally, for his outstanding four decades of service to the NHL, McKenzie got inducted into the Whitby Hall of Fame in 2017.

Draft Rankings And Mock Draft

McKenzie is quite popular for his draft rankings and mock draft that he does every year.

Many fans and potential NHL players are excited about his mock draft in 2021.

Hence, below is Bob’s Top-10 NHL Draft Ranking 2021.

TSN Network

Furthermore, Bob recently signed a new five-year deal in 2019, which will keep him with TSN until 2025.

The new contract was overdue as the Toronto native is probably the best analyst for NHL not only on TSN but the whole of North America.

Kids

Mckenzie is happily married to his wife, Cindy Mckenzie. The couple got married back on 16 September 1979 at a lavish wedding.

The pair met by chance when Bob and Cindy visited the same game for reporting purposes as both of them were involved in ice hockey reporting.

Since then, the two lovebirds have been in a four-decade-long relationship, which only seems to get stronger as years roll on. Furthermore, the couple is blessed with three sons.

Two of the sons’ names are Mike Mckenzie and Shawn Mckenzie, both of whom are professional ice hockey players.

Unfortunately, the details regarding the third son aren’t undisclosed, but we will update it as soon as it is made available.
