Early Career

Taylor began competing in ITF events shortly after turning 15 years old.

His junior career began in 2013 when he competed in low-level grade 4 competitions. Later, when he was 16 years old, he began competing in the 2013 US Open Junior.

He took part in Junior Wimbledon in 2014, where he made it all the way to the semifinals. In the same year, he also triumphed in the Osaka Mayor’s Cup, his first “Grade A” competition.

Taylor advanced to the quarterfinals of many junior grand slam competitions in 2015, including the US Open and French Open.

Tommy Paul was his opponent in the US Open final, which he won. In contrast, he and Tommy Paul lost the French Open final.

He was able to win the grand slam junior competition and earn the title of “2015 ITF Junior World Champion” ranking number 1.

He succeeded Andy Roddick and Donald Young to become the first American to hold this title.

Competitive Tour

Taylor competes after having a strong junior career and is given a wild card entry to his first ATP Tournament in Nottingham.

Unfortunately, he suffered three defeats in the Final event alongside the top 10 competitors and champion Kei Nishikori.

He was able to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 event in Acapulco. In February 2016, Taylor was able to enter the top 100 rankings for the first time.

Taylor and Roger Federer lost a tough three-set match on the grass court in Stuttgart. Meanwhile, he suffered a five-set defeat against Jack Sock in the US Open’s opening round of the grand slam.

As a result, in 2016 he reached his peak ranking of No. 53 and was named ATP Stars of Tomorrow for being the top-ranked player under the age of 19 at the time.

The Grand Slam

In the second round in Indian Wells, Taylor prevails over players ranked in the top 10.

He defeated Marcos Bhagdatis at the 2017 US Open to win his maiden grand slam match in his seventh grand slam competition.

Long-Term Success

Taylor successfully competed in two challenger finals in January 2018, losing to Noah Rubin in the Australian Open. Meanwhile, at Newport Beach, he captured his first challenger title.

Taylor won against Ryan Harrison, Jack Sock, and Steve Johnson in the US Men’s Clay Court Championship semifinals in Houston, but he fell to Steve Johnson.

Taylor advanced to his first Grand Slam third round at the US Open by overcoming Mischa Zverev and Jason Kubler. There, he was defeated in four sets by Dominic Thiem.
