Career in College

He was a backup point guard for the Bruins in the 2005–06 campaign before replacing Jordan Farmar as the starter the following year.

He received the MVP title at the Maui Invitational Tournament in December 2006, and on December 4 and February 18, 2007, he received the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week Honor.

During the 2006–07 season, Collison led the Pacific–10 Conference with 2.2 steals per game.

Collison returned to UCLA for his junior and senior years, participating in 142 games there, which is a record-tying number.

The New Orleans Hornets selected Collison with the 21st overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

During the 2009–10 season, Collison became the first rookie to record a triple-double.

2010–2012 period

On August 11, 2010, a five-player, four-team deal sent Courtney Lee to the Houston Rockets, Trevor Ariza to the New Orleans Hornets, Troy Murphy to the New Jersey Nets, Collison and James Posey to the Indiana Pacers, and Trevor Ariza to the Hornets.

Season 2012–2013

On July 12, 2012, Collison and Dahntay Jones were exchanged for Ian Mahinmi by the Dallas Mavericks.

Jason Kidd, a free agent who left the Mavericks, was replaced as the team’s starting point guard by Collison

Dallas started the 2012–13 season 4–1; however, Collison struggled as they lost 8 of their following 11.

Collison played in the team’s first 14 games before being substituted for for one game.

Dallas signed Derek Fisher after he missed a few of his subsequent games due to a sprained right middle finger.

Season 2013–2014

On July 10, 2013, Collison and the Los Angeles Clippers came to an agreement.

Chris Paul, another Clippers player, was backed up by him once more.

Incredibly, Collison started when Paul missed 18 games due to a broken shoulder and in 32.6 minutes per game, he averaged 6.5 assists and 13.5 points.

Coach Doc Rivers credited Darren Collison’s performance as being “the key” as the Clippers went 12-6 during that span and “weathered the storm” without their All-Star point guard.

On July 7, 2017, Collison re-joined the team he previously played for when he signed with the Indiana Pacers.

He had knee surgery in early February 2018 and made his comeback for the Pacers in mid-March.

In addition, Collison lost two to three weeks of playing time due to the injury and treatment.

After consistently improving his three-point shooting throughout the course of his career, he led the league in 2017–18 with a career-best 3-point percentage of 47 percent.

Collison’s finest single-game performance with Indiana came on December 10, 2018, when he had 17 assists in a 109-101 victory over the Washington Wizards.
