High School Career

At Miami High School, Blake played basketball with Udonis Haslem, another NBA superstar. Afterward, he enrolled in the University of Maryland.

In his debut season, Blake became the first player in the ACC to amass 1,000 points, 800 assists, 400 rebounds, and 200 steals. He is also rated fifth all-time in assists for the NCAA.

He was selected for many All-ACC teams, including the First Team.

In recognition of Steve’s contributions, while he was a student at Maryland, the team retired his jersey number 25, and he was inducted into the school’s hall of fame.

Professional Career

The Washington Wizards selected Steve with the 38th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Later, in 2005, he went on to sign an off-season contract with the Blazers.

Blake, though, was traded to the Denver Nuggets and then the Milwaukee Bucks in July 2006.

Later on, he committed to a three-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. However, on February 17, 2010, he was dealt with by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Career in Coaching

Steve joined the Portland Trail Blazers as a coaching intern after he left the NBA. Later, he was elevated to an assistant on the court.

Steve became an assistant coach with the Phoenix Sun on June 26, 2019. But William, the Phoenix Suns’ head coach, declared that Steve was no longer a member of the group.

William commended Steve for his contribution to the team even though he did not address the cause of Steve’s departure.

Accidents

Throughout his NBA career, Steve experienced a number of ailments. He had to deal with a costochondral fracture or rib fracture, while he was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. The entire season, he was required to rest.

In addition, he had to endure the abdominal strain for which he needed surgery.

Following the procedure, Steve developed groin issues and was forced to miss the full season.
