Jesse Plemons rose to prominence after portraying the nasty psychopath Todd Alquist in one of the best television shows of all time, Breaking Bad. Six years after the Breaking Bad ending, the American actor returned to the character for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which was published on Netflix on October 11, 2019.

But this time, Plemons received a lot of flak from the media and the public, not because of his acting, which was excellent, but because of his unusual appearance. And the difference in appearance was due to the actor’s later weight increase.

So, what caused Plemons to gain weight for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie?

Was he told to put on weight? Or was there another explanation?

Everything you need to know about it is right here!

‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’ took place immediately following ‘Breaking Bad.’

In the last season of Breaking Bad, we saw Walter White (Bryan Cranston)

flee the DEA and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) was kidnapped by Todd Alquist and his associates.

And in the last episode, ‘Felina,’ we saw Walter White return to make one last

apology to his family by returning to Albuquerque and freeing Jesse Pinkman from Todd Alquist’s clutches.

Walter White uses a whole round of bullets to kill Todd Alquist and all of his associates during his scheme to release Jesse Pinkman.

Finally, we see that Walter was hit by one of the shots and died later.

Jesse Pinkman, on the other hand,

exits Todd Alquist’s compound in an El Camino automobile and

hides in some bushes as the police approach Alquist’s compound.

When the police cars leave, he reverses his car and drives away.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie subsequently depicts Jesse Pinkman’s

adventure of fleeing police authority to establish a new life in Alaska.

There is no time gap between the events of the film and those of Breaking Bad.

Furthermore, the film shows how Todd Alquist tortured Jesse Pinkman and

the awful things Todd Alquist did while Jesse was imprisoned.

When we first saw Todd in the film, we were struck by his appearance and weight increase.

Furthermore, as previously stated,

there was no time lapse between the events of Breaking Bad and El Camino:

A Breaking Bad Movie. However, there was a six-year delay between the production of the AMC drama and the Netflix film.

Actor Plemons was 24 years old when Breaking Bad was shot, and he was 30 by the time El Camino was shot.

Another significant factor was that the Netflix film was shot surreptitiously in 50 days.

As a result, Plemons may not have had enough time to get back into shape

or embark on a weight loss program to appear as he did during the events of Breaking Bad.

Jesse Plemons has other acting obligations.

Plemons had a number of acting assignments following his time

on Breaking Bad before reprising his role as Todd in El Camino:

A Breaking Bad Movie. And, as many people are aware, different roles necessitate varied time demands.

Plemons’ many acting gigs required him to gain weight in order to fit into the character.

Plemons’ first acting role required him to gain weight, and it was in the 2015 film Black Mass, starring Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Similarly, for his role as Ed Blumquist in Fargo, Plemons lost some weight, but not significantly.

Following that, he landed further roles that demanded a strong character, such as Black Mirror, Vice, and The Irishman.

Mr. Jesse Plemons

Plemons didn’t have much time to lose weight because The Irishman was shot at the same time as El Camino:

A Breaking Bad Movie. Furthermore, El Camino was only shot for about 50 days.

So it might have been difficult for Plemons to lose weight for El Camino and then acquire it for The Irishman.

Plemons decided to show up with a heavier look to film El Camino for these

and possibly other hidden reasons, and therefore people saw his strange-looking weight in the film.

Jesse Plemons’ weight gain

During the filming of El Camino, Plemons reportedly gained roughly 30 pounds.

However, the media was already questioning him about his weight gain.

During a 2016 GQ interview, he was asked whether gaining weight for Black Mass was tougher than having to talk about it.

“Doing it or having to talk about it?” he said. It eventually spread to Fargo as well.

‘You acquired all this weight!’ everyone exclaims. ‘No, I’ve been overweight for a long time,’ I said.

Yes, talking about it makes me more compassionate — sympathetic? — to what women have to go through.”

How Alejandro Speitzer Supports Gays?

“My God! Men in general are not held up to the same standard in this regard.

It’s odd that it’s all everybody wanted to talk about.

Why is that considered a badge or an accomplishment? That is something that anyone can do. All you have to do is consume shit.”

Furthermore, the interviewer stated that individuals were casual about bringing

up the subject of his weight, even though they didn’t feel good about it.

“No. “And I’d shed a little weight for the Fargo premiere,” the actor explained.

“And I remember this guy, like, ‘What’s your secret to losing weight?'” Plemons continued.

‘Please tell us!’ ‘Well, I was eating everything, and then I just stopped eating bad food,’ I explained. It’s not too difficult.”

That’s all there is to it. Plemons’ weight gain prompted many to criticize or “fat shame” him, while many also defended him.

And once the reason is known, the fat-shaming should stop – even though fat-shaming should not exist in the first place.
