David McWilliams is an Irish journalist, author, and economist. David McWilliams is currently employed by the Irish Times as a writer for the weekly economics column. Since 1999, David has worked as a broadcaster, writer, economic commentator, and documentary filmmaker.

Early Life and Childhood

David McWilliams was born in Dn Laoghaire, Ireland, in 1966. David’s age is 56.

David’s father worked in a chemical and paint manufacturing plant. He was of Scottish ancestry. His Cork-born mother, on the other hand, was a teacher.

David McWilliams went to Blackrock College in Dublin. David later enrolled at Trinity College in Dublin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1988.

In addition, he enrolled at the College of Europe in Belgium and graduated in 1989 with a Master’s Degree in Arts in Economics.

Professional Career

McWilliams currently hosts his own podcast under his own name. David co-hosts the podcast with John Davis.

Between 1990 and 1993, David worked at the Central Bank of Ireland before moving to London to work as the head of Emerging Markets research for Banque Nationale de Paris and as a senior European economist at UBS.

From 1999 to 2002, he worked as an emerging markets strategist for Rockwest Capital, a New York-based hedge fund.

Since returning to work in Ireland, David has hosted a current affairs program called Agenda on TV3 and a topical afternoon discussion program called The Big Bite on RTÉ One.

All of these shows were canceled after relatively brief runs. In 2005, he released his first book, The Pope’s Children. The book quickly became a best-seller. It also cemented his reputation as a household name in Ireland.

In 2010, David co-founded two annual events, Kilkenomics and the Dalkey Book Festival.

He and his wife, Sian, co-founded the Dalkey Book Festival. Kilkenomics, on the other hand, is a festival-style conference that combines standup comedy and economics.

He’s working on a piece of economic content called International Trade & Money.
