Baker Mayfield and Emily Wilkinson met through mutual friends
Baker Mayfield, the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, and current Cleveland Browns quarterback has given Browns fans hope, particularly after the 2020 season, when the Browns made the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
And, with an impressive offensive team and a defense that has the potential to be one of the league’s top defensive teams, Mayfield and the Browns have a good shot of making the playoffs this season.
Fans are curious about their rookie quarterback, who is ready to make the Browns a real contender.
Fans are particularly fascinated about Baker Mayfield’s wife, Emily Wilkinson, whom he married after his rookie season, and how they met.
Who exactly is Emily Wilkinson?
Wilkinson, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before working as a patient coordinator for a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.
She went to Cleveland with Mayfield when he was picked by the Browns in 2018.
She was also an Instagram model and social media influencer — and she has an Instagram-famous brother, Sammy Wilk, who has over 1.5 million followers.
Wilkinson currently works as a special correspondent for WKYC, doing lighter and entertaining segments.
Baker Mayfield met his wife Emily Wilkinson in what way?
Mayfield and Wilkinson were acquainted by a mutual acquaintance, according to Browns Nation.
While Mayfield was enthusiastic, Wilkinson was not.
She evidently mistook him for a “typical playboy athlete” and did not want to date a “punk football player.”
Mayfield stalked her on Instagram, following and unfollowing her in an attempt to garner her attention.
Wilkinson finally caved in late December 2017, responding to his texts and agreeing to see him for lunch before the 2018 Rose Bowl, Mayfield’s final college game.

His perseverance paid off
Their relationship took off rapidly once Wilkinson consented to go out with him; they moved in together less than a week after their first date.
They proposed in June 2018 and married a year later in Malibu, California. Wilkinson has been Mayfield’s staunchest supporter since their marriage, defending him to members of the Cleveland media as well as detractors on social media.
She also backed Mayfield’s desire to kneel during the national anthem in solidarity with Black NFL players, and she stood by him when he changed his mind after the season got underway.
Wilkinson also appeared in Mayfield’s Progressive Insurance advertisements, “At Home With Baker Mayfield.”
The Mayfields have been involved in the community, donating $50,000 to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank in 2020 to assist individuals affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
In addition, the pair distributed Thanksgiving meals at a Feed the Need event that they helped organize that same year.
Wilkinson also assisted in bringing long-time fan Tom Seipel, who was on hospice at the time, back to Cleveland to see the Browns’ playoff victory. Seipel died on February 13, 2021.
Brown’s supporters are hopeful Mayfield will return a Lombardi trophy to Cleveland, and that is a real possibility.
After all, he has the support he requires both on the field and at home.
