Bobby Cox, Stroke Sufferer in 2019
Bobby Cox, a long-time MLB manager, led the Atlanta Braves to a World Series victory in 1995. During his second term as manager, the four-time Manager of the Year guided the Braves to 14 straight division titles.
Cox, 80, suffered a stroke in 2019 but returned to the club after manager Brian Snitker presented him with the 2021 World Series trophy.
According to Snitker, a longtime friend of Cox’s, the former manager was plainly “glad and proud.”

Cox managed in Major League Baseball for 29 years, compiling a record of 2,504-2,001.
He won his only World Series with the Braves, defeating the Cleveland Indians in 1995.
The Braves won five National League pennants and 14 consecutive division titles under Cox.
“For a man as passionate, aggressive, and tough as he is, you hate to see him go through anything like this,” former Braves pitcher Tom Glavine remarked at the time.
“But, at the same time, those are the attributes that will most likely bring him out of it and return him to normal.”
Cox returned to the park six months later, having regained his voice and feeling on his right side.
Cox was not present when the Braves earned their first World Series title since his 1995 squad.

Snitker presented the trophy to Cox because he was unable to attend the Braves’ victory celebration.
He provided an update on his pal and stated that he was “glad and proud” when the Braves were proclaimed champions.
Snitker told The Athletic in early February, “Myself, Alex (Anthopoulos), and John Schuerholz went over and got a picture with him and the trophy.”
“It was really cool.” He was quite ecstatic.
“I wanted a photo of the two managers and two general managers that did this.”
He can’t really talk after having a stroke, but you can tell what he’s thinking by his expressions, energy, and everything else.
“Congratulations,” he said. Excellent work.”
He can say things like that. He was simply overjoyed and overjoyed.
During the playoffs, I spent a lot of time over there.”
Snitker stated that he and Cox have always been friends.
“He’d bring a cup of coffee to my office every day at 6:20 and sit at my desk when we were home,” he explained.
“When I originally started this job, I’d contact him all the time, trying to piece this thing together.”
I miss those days since there was never a moment when I dialed his number and he didn’t answer.

For the time being, the Braves and Major League Baseball are in flux
Baseball is now on hiatus due to the MLB lockout.
Spring training, which is scheduled to begin in a few weeks, will most likely not begin on time, if at all.
The Braves have their own issue with free agent first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has spent his entire career in Atlanta.
The Braves failed to sign him before the lockout, so teams are unable to sign players until it is lifted.
Snitker claims he hasn’t spoken with Freeman because he can’t.
“It’s illegal,” he told The Athletic. “You’re not supposed to talk to them, and they’re not going to get a hold of me.”
Normally, I’ll receive texts from men or see men (at the stadium).
“It’s strange strolling along the halls right now because no one is there.”
I believe the last time I spoke with Freddie was after we returned to Atlanta after the final World Series game in Houston – possibly at the parade. It’s difficult.”
For the time being, everything is up in the air.
Snitker believes baseball will be played, but he is unsure when it will begin.
“I’m not sure,” he admitted. “I’m just hoping we don’t lose any games.”
I don’t mind if we lose a couple of spring training games.
