Yayan Ruhian is an actor and martial artist from Indonesia. Yayan Ruhian rose to prominence after portraying the ruthless killer Mad Dog in the Indonesian action films The Raid and The Raid 2 in 2011 and 2014. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he portrays Tasu Leech.

Aside from acting in the films, Yayan collaborated on choreography and stunt coordination with his co-star and the main protagonist of both films, Iko Uwais

Early life and Childhood

Yayan Ruhian was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia, on October 19, 1968.

His father was a karate instructor who encouraged him to take up the sport.

He had learned the native martial art of Pencak Silat by the age of thirteen.

He immediately rose through the ranks as a protegee and went on to teach the discipline in countries all over the world, including Belgium, France, and the Netherlands.

When Yayan was hired to help choreograph the stunt work for Welsh director Gareth Evans’ film Merantau, Evans was so delighted that he offered Yayan a part in the film.

He later gained international recognition for his role in Gareth Evans’ 2011 Indonesian action film The Raid. He portrayed Mad Dog, an Indonesian drug lord’s vicious martial-arts bouncer.

In the 2014 sequel to The Raid, The Raid 2, Evans cast Yayan once more. He played Prakoso, an assassin, and enforcer of mafia lord Bangun, this time.
