Why Isn’t Dak Prescott Playing on Sunday Night Football for the Dallas Cowboys?
The Dallas Cowboys are off to a fast start in the 2021-22 NFL season. Through seven weeks, Mike McCarthy’s squad is 5-1 and has a commanding lead in the NFC East.
However, the Cowboys’ good start has come to an end ahead of their Sunday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings, as starting quarterback Dak Prescott has been ruled out.
Dak Prescott was hurt in the calf against the Patriots
Dak Prescott will not play in the Cowboys’ Sunday Night Football game against the Vikings.
Two weeks earlier, the Cowboys won a nail-biter against the New England Patriots when Prescott connected with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for a game-winning touchdown throw in overtime.
But it wasn’t all good news for the NFC East champions in New England.
Prescott walked off the field after the play and had to be carried to the locker room by running back Ezekiel Elliott.
The quarterback appeared upbeat in his postgame press conference, but doubts began to develop after the team diagnosed him with a right calf strain.
Prescott was restricted in practice all week, raising concerns about his availability on Sunday night.
The Cowboys said that their quarterback would be a game-time decision versus the Vikings depending on pregame warmups.
Dak Prescott will miss Sunday Night Football due to a calf issue
Prescott went through his pregame routine in Minnesota on Sunday night, but he didn’t appear or feel healthy enough to play.
A little more than an hour before kickoff, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen tweeted that Prescott would be inactive for the game.
“Dak Prescott will not play tonight for the @dallascowboys, according to a source,” Mortensen wrote.
“Against the @Vikings, Cooper Rush will start and Will Grier will be the backup.
Pre-game warm-ups for @Dak had no effect on expectations.”
That’s all there is to it.
Prescott will not play for the Cowboys in their NFC matchup against the Vikings on SNF, despite an MVP-caliber start to the season.

Cooper Rush will make his first NFL start for the Cowboys on SNF
Cooper Rush is a familiar name among Cowboys fans.
But you might not know much about him because he hasn’t played much in his brief NFL career.
Rush is in his fourth season with the Cowboys, although he has only attempted three passes in his career.
The Central Michigan product has completed only one of his three career throw attempts for two yards, and that was in his rookie season in 2017.
Rush will make his first NFL start for the Cowboys on Sunday night, with Will Grier serving as the backup.
