In Victoria, British Columbia, Steve participated in high school basketball for two different teams.
In his final season, he helped St. Michaels win the British Columbia AAA provincial championship, for which he was named the Best Player of the Year in that province.
Steve averaged 21.3 points and 11.2 assists per game during his final year.
Nash eventually received a scholarship offer from Santa Clara University in California after attempting to acquire financial aid at many American universities.
Dick Davey, the then-Broncos coach, lauded him for his performance but thought he was a very poor defender.
Since his first year, Steve has performed incredibly well, helping the Broncos win the WCC tournament that year.
They consequently qualified for the NCAA tournament, although they were unsuccessful in winning.
Nash oversaw the Santa Clara team’s tremendous growth throughout the years, and they added two more WCC championships.
Until 1996, Nash also won the Conference Player of the Year award twice.
Even though Nash was unable to assist them in capturing the NCAA championship, his college career as a whole was a huge accomplishment for him personally.

Professional Career
In the first round of the 1996 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns picked Nash with the fifteenth overall pick. The Sun’s supporters, however, were unhappy with the decision made by their team.
Therefore, the team administration presumably offered Nash very little playing time in his first season to appease them.
He continued with the Phoenix Suns for one more season, and his stats were better than the previous one.
Nash had enough opportunities to try new things while playing with the Mavericks, so he eventually went back to playing his natural game.
In 2004, an improved player Nash returned to the Phoenix Suns, where he remained as their star player until 2012.
Over the years, while playing with the Suns, he put on many of the best performances of his career and rose to fame as one of the game’s most promising point guards.
When Steve made his retirement announcement in 2015, he was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
He had intended to play in the NBA for a few more seasons, but after reviewing his health, he ultimately chose to take a break.
On October 30, 2015, the Phoenix Suns finally presented him with the Ring of Honor.

On September 25, 2015, Steve joined the Golden State Warriors as a part-time consultant.
