Shinobu won the All-Japan championship in 2015.

The Rio Olympics in 2016 were his most important international stage.

Initially, he competed in the 59kg Greco Roman event at the 2016 Asian Olympic qualifying tournament.

Shinobu won silver in the Olympics after qualifying, but before that, he overcame Iran’s six-time world champion Hamid Sourian in the round.

Indeed, he was the underdog, defeating Hamid by a score of 7-4.

He then defeated Phils Tuktaev in the quarterfinals and Kim Seung-Hak in the semifinals.

However, he was defeated in the finals by Wang Lumin.

But, in the end, he was able to compete in the Olympic Games once more.

Shinobu fought Hamid again on the day of the 2016 Olympic Games, and this time he won despite losing the first round.

However, despite reaching the Olympic final, Cuba’s Ismael Borrero triumphed over Shinobu through technical fall.

After all of the excitement, Ota went quiet in 2017, only to win the 60kg Greco-Roman event at the 2018 Asian Games.

Shinobu competed in the 2019 All-Japan Selection Championship for the 2020 Olympic Games the following year.

For it, he competed in the 60kg Greco-Roman event, reaching the finals.

However, in the end, he lost to the 2019 World Championship winner Kenichiro Fumita, and as a result, he was unable to compete in the Olympic Games.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

Shinobu Ota switched from wrestling to MMA after signing with the Rizin Fighting Federation near the end of 2020.

In Kazakhstan, he first fought and won the 63kg world title.

Similarly, on December 31, 2020, he entered the Saitama Super Arena to face veteran MMA fighter Hideo Tokoro.

When his bout opponent was disclosed, Shinobu claimed that he had not expected Hideo to be his debut opponent.

He also stated that Hideo was one of his favorite fighters and that he had no intention of losing the battle.

Shinobu did, however, begin full-time MMA training three months before his match.

Moving on, his second MMA battle took place on September 19, 2021.

At Rizin 30, he faced off against former K-1 Welterweight champion Yuta Kubo and won by unanimous decision.
