Sabi, aka Jenice Dena Portlock, was born on November 24, 1987, in Inglewood, California.

Born in a Spanish and English-language-speaking household, her mother is a Salvadoran whilst her father is an African-American.

She was pretty little when her parents separated for unclear reasons.

Well, following the breakup of her father and mother, she along with her younger sister chose to stay with her father because his house had a cable connection.

She Loved Watching Music Videos Of Michael Jackson

As she resided at her father’s residence, she was tremendously inspired by music.

In fact, she has opened up several times that as a kid she enjoyed watching MTV and would spend her weekends sitting glued to the TV screen.

In one of her interviews, she frankly mentioned that she loves seeing performers like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Sade.

Well, it was during this time of her life, she developed a hunger for pop music, songwriting, and acting as well.

Her interest in it escalated to the level that she would choreograph her younger sister and drag her together to perform in front of the family members.

Education

To pursue her interest in music and theatre, she enrolled in the theatre when she was still in middle school.

She finished her diploma from Westchester Senior High School in 2005.

She professionally entered into performing arts in 2008, appearing in an independent short film, The Smallest River in Almirante.

Moreover, she also participated in ads for large businesses including Pepsi, Universal Studious, and ABC Family.

Meanwhile, she also concluded her schooling at California State University Long Beach, specializing in communication in 2009.

While still at college, she also emulated other singers and worked on her vocal technique to perform better.

Concerning the same, she once commented,

No matter who it was, Justin Timberlake, Brandy, or Alicia Keys, I could replicate exactly how they sounded.

That’s how I got comfortable with my voice.

Sabi Joined The Girl Group “The Bangz”

She made her professional breakthrough in the music industry in 2009 when she was approached by the production team of The Co-Stars.

At the time, they were aiming to establish a female pair.

Eventually, she was signed by the indie recording label VNR, Asylum Records, and Warner Bros, under the urban pop group The Bangz, also starring Kortney Ann Elliott.

The band recorded two tracks Boys With Tattoos (We Jerkin’)” and “Found My Swag, featuring New Boyz.

Both the songs proved incredibly successful hitting over a million views on YouTube, gaining the band’s national recognization and MTV exposure.

Unfortunately, her trip with her band member Ella Ann came to an end after Ann wounded herself in a car accident.

However, because of her energy and excitement for work, Warner Bros. Records offered her to continue her career as a solo artist.

Solo Career

Sabi, aka Jenice Dena Portlock, released her first song as a solo artist on, April 4, 2011, Goodnight, a song from her debut album.

Shortly after this, she published Wild Heart.

Later, she featured in Sabotage, a music video by Wale, an American rapper.

Similarly, she also became part of Britney Spears’ song “(Drop Dead) Beautiful” and the Cobra Starship track “You Make Me Feel…,”

On March 19, 2012, she came up with Wild Heart which was followed by Where They Do That At? on April 17, 2012, featuring Wale once again.

Her other hit single includes Champagne, Cali Love, Glow released in 2012, 2013, and 2016 accordingly.

Apart from her music videos, she has also been featured in a few movies.

She appeared in the 2015 criminal thriller movie Requiem for Remorse.

Prior to this, in 2012, she was confirmed to be the host of a web series Found My Swag.

Sabi’s Relationship Status

Talking about her relationship and dating, Sabi states herself to be single on her Facebook profile.

There are also speculations that she is married although it is far from reality.

In truth, she has not declared any sort of wedding plans. However, we hope to see her with her husband soon.
