Phil Wang is a stand-up comedian. Phil Wang is also a member of the sketch comedy group Daphne, as well as the co-creator of their BBC Radio 4 series Daphne Sounds Expensive. Phil is currently the co-host of the comedy podcast ‘BudPod’ with fellow Footlights alumnus Pierre Novellie.
Early Life and Childhood
Phil Wang was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1990. He has the age 32.
Phil’s family returned to his father’s hometown of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, one week after his birth, where his parents had first met in 1982.
His mother was a trained archaeologist who moved to Malaysia as a Voluntary Service Overseas volunteer (VSO). He was raised in Malaysia, where he learned Malay, Mandarin, and English.

Phil Wang completed his GCSEs at Brunei’s Jerudong International School. Phil’s family returned to the UK when he was 16, to Bath, Somerset.

Wang currently co-hosts the comedy podcast ‘BudPod’ with fellow Footlights alumnus and comedian Pierre Novellie. The two collaborate to bring you hilarious conversation and funny little chunks they’ve discovered or created.
They talk about uncontested tribes, new phones, freemasons in the Philippines, and fish roe head dreams, among other things.
Phil appeared on the podcasts Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown and Do the Right Thing in 2017. In May 2021, he launched a new podcast called Phil Hates Horror on Audible.
Phil was announced as one of the Taskmaster series 7 contestants on July 4, 2018. He won tasks such as ‘Most surprisingly beautiful thing’ and ‘Make the best noise’.
Phil appeared on Kevin McCloud’s Rough Guide to the Future in 2020. He appeared on Have I Got News For You in December 2020.
