According to reports, Collin Comey, one of her children born on August 4, 1995,

died nine days later on August 13, 1995. Infection with Group B Strep bacteria was the cause of death.

Patrice wrote a column in The Baltimore Sun a month after her son died,

explaining Collin’s death while also raising awareness about the disease.

She stated unequivocally that the infection is treatable and that precautions should be taken. She stated,

I don’t want my story to frighten anyone.

But I cannot let my beautiful boy’s death become just another in a long line of GBS tragedies.

was kidnapped by a rapist when he was only 15 years old.

The incident occurred in 1977 when he was held hostage by a criminal known as the Ramsey rapist.

At their Allendale home, the man allegedly held them at gunpoint.

While Comey managed to lock them in a bathroom and later call the police,
