After Her Husband’s Death
Dreama reportedly suffered from severe depression for years after Bob’s death and was rarely seen in public.
Perry, Bob’s wife, founded Always Free Honor Flight after his death.

Bob Denver was still battling cancer in a hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Dreama herself had suffered a heart attack about four months into his treatment.
She was then admitted to the hospital and placed in the same room as her husband.
On September 2, 2005, Dreama Denver lost her actor husband, Bob Denver, to complications related to throat cancer.
Though the former theater star said the heart attack was secondary to seeing her husband fight for his life every minute.
Perry was able to recover from his heart attack. However, in 2015, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She stated that it was extremely difficult, especially without her husband. Fortunately, she was cured after receiving treatment in Michigan.
Perry’s book, Gilligan’s Dream, had just been released when she decided that “Country Roads,” a chart-topping song about West Virginia written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, and John Denver, should be the state’s next official son.
She told Herald that she was discussing the song with her co-host, Charlie Thomas, on their morning show ‘Sunny Side Up.’
When Thomas inquired, “Isn’t this a state song?” she replied, “If it isn’t, it should be.”
Soon after, Bob’s wife and Thomas launched a campaign to have “Country Roads” included as one of West Virginia’s official state songs, with help from U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin and District 27 Delegate Marty Gearhart.
The song was then designated as West Virginia’s official state song by the West Virginia Legislature on March 7, 2014.
