Josh Selby

Josh Selby is a pro basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Josh Selby was a member of the Kansas Jayhawks’ collegiate team. Later in his career, he played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Canton Charge, Maine Red Claws, Qingdao Eagles, and other clubs.

Josh brings agility, originality, and body control to the games, to put it simply. He has been a member of the Franklin Bulls since 2011.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Josh Selby was born under the sign of Aries on March 27, 1991, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Maeshon Witherspoon, his mother, raised him as a single parent in Baltimore, Maryland.

Indeed, nothing is known about his boyhood, which Selby frequently refers to as “tough times.”

Growing up in a West Baltimore area where there were constant gunshots was difficult.

When Witherspoon was five, he was left at his grandmother’s house because he went to work at McDonald’s.

Fearful of the gunfire noises during such tenures, he would phone his mother, and Witherspoon would drop everything and rush to him.

Growing up to be a middle school student was also tougher. When Witherspoon left her former job to start a new one, her new employment wasn’t ready yet, and she fell behind on her rent payments.

As a result, she had no choice but to move in with her pals. Josh shared a bed with two other boys, while she shared a bed with a buddy.

Meanwhile, as Witherspoon noted, Josh was displaying “street boy” characteristics.

He would frequently discuss skipping school and curfews in easy terms.

Changes in the environment

Following that, Witherspoon chose to live with her mother, who was extremely welcoming.

She altered Josh’s middle school and even his area at that time, and Josh progressively improved.

It did not, however, keep painful events at bay.

When one of his friends’ mouths was whipped with a pistol, Josh experienced some of the worst moments of his life.

He also saw his cousin Shelton Turner be shot in the car, which led to his death due to brain edema.

Josh attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, and The John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland, for his education.

As a result, he spent his final year at Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore.

In the end, he chose to attend the University of Kansas.

Basketball: An Overview

Josh’s mother, Witherspoon, was a basketball player at Baltimore’s Overlea High School. She was even offered a basketball scholarship at Coppin State after high school.

As a result, she would pass on her acknowledged gift to her young son. Josh’s left hand was weak, she discovered when he was seven.

She used to take him to the gym and have him dribble and bounce the ball with only his left hand. Josh, of course, would frequently scream and beg him to stop.

Finally, she would encourage him to finish it.

During his senior year of high school, Josh averaged 32 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals per game.

Admission to the College Team

Josh had opted to attend the University of Tennessee after graduating from high school. Later in 2009, he reversed his judgment.

Josh chose Kansas over Kentucky, UConn, and Arizona for his college commitment later that year. It was all revealed live on ESPN2 during the 2010 Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Josh was the top-rated recruit on the recruiting website Rivals.com when he arrived on campus.

During his tenure with Kansas, he won the dunk contest before each game.

His college career was marred by controversy, and he was even suspended for nine games as a result. In addition, his season was marred by injuries that forced him to miss numerous games.

Josh averaged 7.9 points and 2.2 assists in 20.4 minutes per game following his return.

Alongside, he had only featured in a total of 26 games among the 38 games of a team.

Josh: Idk about all of that, but I will see your pretty face 🙂 and yeah, I’m getting the telly hit me up aight!

Josh: wassup, bruh….here are some pictures of me. Don’t show anybody! because I’m in sports and don’t want people to know, and I’m just curious, not gay, bruh.”

Depressed with the Grizzlies

In 2013, Josh made a statement about the Grizzlies, where he said he was depressed with the team.

Arriving at the team after Kansas, Selby had broken his hand and struggled with a stress reaction on his right foot.

Thus, as he got stressed, he performed lesser, which eventually traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“I went through a time where I was depressed with basketball and Grizzlies. I got depressed because things weren’t going my way, and I had thoughts of retiring. If I had a legit chance to showcase my talents and a coach that trusts me, I might reach my full potential.”

Additionally, Josh also stated that he never got a good amount of gameplay with the team.

Marijuana Possession Charge

In January 2012, Josh was charged with marijuana possession and appeared in Prince George’s County district court. However, not many details are given about it.

Furthermore, Josh gave a blunt comment on the situation, stating, “no comment about it. It is what it is.” Not to mention, he was also not given any suspension or sort of those.

Again, the very next day, Josh was indulged in a charge with failure to obey properly placed traffic control device instructions.
