Matt Mitrione is a well-known American mixed martial artist who competes in Bellator MMA.  Matt Mitrione was a featured fighter on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights, and he was known for knocking out opponents with his right hand from a southpaw posture.

He was a professional football player before becoming a mixed martial artist.

Unfortunately, he re-injured his foot in a playoff defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in 2003, necessitating yet another operation.

He had to have seven surgery on that foot and was on crutches for 16 months.

Maat was released by the Giants later that year and had brief spells with the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings before being released by the Vikings six weeks later.

Mixed martial arts professional

During a talk with his close friend Jayson Werth, Matt Mitrione was introduced to the world of MMA.

After being introduced, he was heavily affected and went to Indianapolis with his family to begin his full-time training to participate in MMA.

“Jayson encouraged me to fight on an MMA night he was promoting, and I responded, ‘Yeah, that’d be cool,'” he explained.

“I got hurt and couldn’t fight, but I got involved in the sport.”

I began training and six months later, I was on a show called The Ultimate Fighter.”

In addition, Matt competed in the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2010.

Rashad Evans, his coach, gave him the unofficial nickname “Meathead” shortly after joining the show.

Finally, in The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights conclusion, he made his professional MMA debut, defeating Marcus Jones via KO early in the second round.

Matt knocked Kimbo down with leg kicks and eventually beat him with punches in the second round to improve to 2-0 on the pro circuit.

Matt met Travis Browne on January 17, 2016, and lost via TKO in the third round, suffering a nasty eye injury and two eye pokes from Browne throughout the fight.

It was Matt’s final fight under his contract, and he later chose to enter the free agent market.

Matt Mitrione had a horrible eye injury in his heavyweight division loss to Travis Browne, which became controversial as a photo of his bulging eyes went viral on social media.

Matt met Oli Thompson in his next bout, and won the back-and-forth fight via TKO in the second round, embracing his rapid return to the Bellator cage.
