Early Life and Childhood

John Batchelor was born on April 29, 1948, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, United States. He is seventy-three years old.

He was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to an Iranian Assyrian mother and an American father from the Midwest. John grew up primarily in Montgomery County’s Lower Merion Township, in Pennsylvania’s 13th congressional district.

During World War II, both of his parents served in the United States Army; his father also served in the Korean War. He has four younger siblings.

John Batchelor attended Princeton University after high school and graduated in 1970.

He later graduated from New York’s Union Theological Seminary.

Professional Career

In April 2003, The John Show began national syndication. The program airs on approximately 200 stations for 20 hours per week.

Its primary interests include geopolitics, economics, war, history, hard sciences, literature, private space, whimsy, and so on. It used to be broadcast every night.

He hosted his final episode of the show on WABC and Westwood One on March 5, 2021, as WABC changed its format and the show ended its affiliation with Westwood One in favor of syndication by CBS News.

In May 2021, he began referring to the show as CBS Eye on the World. The show premiered on WOR in New York on Monday, November 1, 2021, and will air Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight.

In October 2018, John was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer, a malignant tumor at the base of his tongue that threatened his ability to speak on the radio.

On November 2, he arrived at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for surgery, and when he awoke, the surgery had been a success.

John then gave himself two weeks to relearn how to speak. Surviving cancer had an impact on him in other ways.

From early 2001 to September 2006, John’s radio show was broadcast nationally on the ABC radio network from AM 770 WABC in New York.

He returned to radio on WABC on October 7, 2007, and later to other large market stations on a weekly basis.

As of November 30, 2009, John was hosting a nightly show on WABC from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern Time, which could be heard in many major markets across the country via what eventually became the Westwood One network.
