In Super Bowl XIX, his squad met the Dolphins and set the record for most passing yards in a single game. Montana became the first team in NCAA history to win 15 games in a single season.

1985-1989

He sustained severe lower back spinal disc damage in 1986, which necessitated emergency surgery.
