After departing the Atlanta Hawks, Brown began his broadcasting career.

He began working with the NBA coverage on the USA Network and CBS at the time.

Overall, while working with the New York Knicks for CBS and Brent Musburger, the first appeared in a game broadcast.

When he departed the Knicks, he went to work for CBS as a full-timer alongside Verne Lundquist.

At that point, CBS announced that Brown had been hired as the network’s primary analyst for NBA games.

Brown was promoted to CBS’s head analyst in 1988 after working with them for a few years.

During his time as a reporter, he covered the 1990 NBA Finals as well as the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons games.

Brown, along with Verne Lundquist, Brent Musburger, Bob Neal, Ron Thulin, and Pete Van Wieren, was quickly assigned to TNT’s basketball coverage.
