Host Kay Adams Abruptly Announces She’s Leaving Show, Is Amazon Next

Kay Adams

Kay Adams, the show’s host, has abruptly announced her departure; is Amazon next?

Since 2016, early-rising NFL fans have begun their mornings with Kay Adams and the Good Morning Football crew. After Nate Burleson left for CBS Mornings in 2021, the NFL Network morning chat program that began with Adams, Nate Burleson, Kyle Brandt, and Peter Schrager is losing its second co-host in a year.

Adams is now free and could be on his way to a lucrative contract with Amazon.

Kay Adams has suddenly declared that Friday’s episode of ‘GMFB’ will be her final

Kay Adams is a Chicago native and University of Missouri graduate who began her career in radio before transitioning to television hosting.

Adams formerly hosted Fantasy Football Live on NBC Sports before taking over the NFL Network’s primary morning show.

When NFL Network launched Good Morning Football in 2016, Adams, former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson, NFL insider Peter Schrager, and Real World and Days of Our Lives alum Kyle Brandt were among the weekday hosts.

When Burleson left for CBS’s mainstream morning show in 2021, he was replaced by a rotating cast of ex-NFL players.

Michal Robinson, Cris Carter, DeAngelo Hall, and Sean O’Hara have been the most consistent players to fill the spot.

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, Adams surprised viewers by inviting them to “celebrate my final program” on Friday, May 13.

With Adams’ statement, there was no official word on why she was departing or who would take her place.

For the time being, the show will likely use a rotating format, with several different people co-hosting with Schrager and Brandt.

Colleen Wolfe, who already presents the weekend edition of GMFB, could be a long-term possibility.

Rachel Bonnetta is another popular candidate, but she would have to relocate from the West Coast to New York, where GMFB films, to take the job full-time.

The rumors surrounding Adams’s upcoming appearance are fascinating.

Could Kay Adams end up working for Amazon?

According to CNBC, Amazon will pay the NFL around $1 billion per year for the following 11 years to broadcast the league’s Thursday Night Football games beginning with the 2022 NFL season.

After spending so much money, Jeff Bezos’ business spent, even more, to bring Kirk Herbstreit and veteran announcer, Al Michaels, to their booth.

Now, the organization is in the process of adding more talent to its Thursday night program, and viewers may see Kay Adams there next.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, “sources characterized Adams as a leading candidate to be the Amazon Prime Video TNF presenter for the show that is slated to be on-site each week.”

“There is no finished transaction.”

According to the Post, Amazon is also interested in former NFL punter and sports media magnate Pat McAfee for TNF.

If Adams is actually headed to Amazon, an announcement should be made soon.

On Thursday, May 12, the NFL published its 2022 schedule, and the first Amazon game will be a Week 2 clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers.

‘GMFB’ on Friday was an emotional episode

During the week preceding up to Kay Adams’ departure, former New York Giants center Sean O’Hara sat in with Kay Adams, Kyle Brandt, and Peter Schrager.

However, he was nowhere to be discovered until moments before the show on Friday.

That’s because Nate Burleson appeared as a surprise co-host for Adams’ farewell broadcast, reuniting the original Good Morning Football cast for one last time.

Adams offered a poignant goodbye to her GMFB colleagues and the show’s audience at the close of the three-hour show.

The host began by disclosing the key to the show’s success.

Adams has always told folks that it’s just “four people who truly enjoy football and having fun.”

She went on to praise the show’s creator, Michael Davies, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and everyone behind the scenes, as well as going into detail about what Brandt, Schrager, and Burleson bring to the show.

Adams completed her thank yous, her voice cracking, by thanking the viewers who had fun with her and the crew over the last six years.

Adams wiped her eyes with a Kleenex as she listened to her co-hosts express their gratitude and well-wishes before signing off with a wave and a peace sign before kissing the GMFB audience one last time.
