Gilbert Arenas is a retired American basketball player. The NBA hopeful began Gilbert Arenas’ career after being selected as the Warriors’ 31st pick in the second round. His journey has had highs and lows since then.

Arenas is a three-time NBA All-Star and three-time All-NBA Team member, as well as the 2002-03 NBA Most Improved Player.

The power forward was known for his late-game shot-making ability, earning him the moniker “Agent Zero.”

He allegedly flipped a coin to choose between several teams interested in signing him, including the Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Clippers.

The Washington Wizards made him a six-year, $60 million contract offer.

The Warriors were unable to match this offer because they were over the salary cap and Arenas was a second-round pick.

Due to salary limit exclusions, the Warriors would have been able to match the offer sheet if Arenas had been selected in the first round.

The “Gilbert Arenas Rule” was later enacted to allow clubs to re-sign restricted free agents who were not chosen in the first round.

 Armed Robbery

Gilbert Arenas admitted to hiding unloaded weapons in his locker at Capital One Arena on December 24, 2009, and turned them over to club security.

The NBA was very concerned because he was violating NBA rules as well as D.C. statutes.

Furthermore, Arenas and his teammate Javaris Crittenton were accused of firing weapons in the Wizards’ locker room after Christmas Eve.

Arenas were later charged with carrying a firearm without a license by the D.C. Metropolitan Police and the US Attorney’s office on January 14, 2010.

On January 15, Arenas pled guilty to carrying an unlicensed firearm outside a house or business.

Following the incident, Arenas was suspended indefinitely without pay by the NBA until their investigation was completed.

Arenas apologized for his actions in an open editorial in The Washington Post on February 2, 2010.

Gilbert was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to two years probation and 30 days in a halfway house on March 26, 2010.

For the 2010 season, he returned to the NBA and changed his number from 0 to 9.
