Delonte West

Delonte West is a basketball player in the NBA. Delonte West was chosen by the Boston Celtics as the 24th selection in the NBA draft in 2004, marking a turning point in his career. West is a well-known figure who has played for a variety of clubs.

When he announced his retirement following his final game with the Mavericks in 2015, West had not had a long career in basketball.

Early Years & Family

Delonte West was born in Washington, D.C., on July 26, 1983, to Dmitri and Delphina West.

Because he grew up in poverty, Delonte’s childhood wasn’t quite idyllic.

While his parents divorced when he was young, he and his family were forced to relocate to a poor area.

Dmitri West Jr. and Danielle West, the 6 feet 4 inches guard’s two siblings, were reared by their single mother.

They described their childhood as “happy-poor” even if they were destitute.

Delonte had a rocky start in life since it was clear from an early age that he was mentally ill.

He was regularly ridiculed by the neighborhood kids since he was born a mixed child with red hair and other distinguishing qualities.

Aside from the chaos at home, his love and passion for basketball were the only things that kept him going.

When he had a leg injury at the age of 12, he began skipping school because he couldn’t play.

Delonte became depressed as a result of the events and attempted suicide many times at the age of 14, leading him to visit the hospital on a regular basis.

Delphina, a single mother who was concerned and disturbed by her son’s behavior, determined that Delonte should live with his father.

Delonte’s father, on the other hand, was unconcerned about his situation, and things only became worse when he met a lot of people at his new school who led him down the road of drugs and alcohol.

Net Worth

Delonte West’s net worth is only $1000.

Delonte’s story is one of the most heartbreaking and worst examples of a career-ending.

The fact that West went from a net worth of $16 million to $1000 in such a short period of time is not particularly pleasing.

Playing against LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers, West earned the most money in his career while with the Boston Celtics, earning $9.8 million.

He made $1.5 million each season over the course of his eight-year basketball career.

He was paid $1.223 million per year as of 2019.

West and his wife resided in a $1 million mansion with many pools, bedrooms, and a breathtaking view of the Potomac River.

Despite the lavish exterior, the presentation on the inside was quite different.

West was having financial problems and couldn’t afford the household costs, so he sold a few items to make some quick cash.

He also worked at a furniture company before applying for a position at Home Depot in 2011.

Career During High School and College

Delonte attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, and was a basketball star there.

With an average of 20.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 steals, and 3.9 assists per game during his senior year, he was named Washington Post All-Met Basketball Player of the Year.

Even with his greatest effort, Delonte and his team made it to the Maryland 4A championship game but lost 70-58.

He had hoped for something better in college, despite the disappointment. Jameer Nelson was his teammate at Saint Joseph’s University.

The Hawks of Saint Joseph’s went 27-1 throughout the regular season, earning a position in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. At the season’s end, the Hawks had a 30-2 record.

When the Boston Celtics selected Delonte as the 24th selection in the 2004 NBA draft, he dropped out of school during his junior year.

Professional Career

The Boston Celtics chose the American point guard as the 24th selection in the NBA draft in 2004, marking a turning point in his career.

In a double-overtime Celtics victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, he scored a career-high 31 points and converted a career-high 12 free throws.

West has previously represented the Fujian Xunxing and Shangai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association, as well as the Texas Legends of the NBA G League.

Controversies

West has been in the news for a number of issues, including police charges, warrants, and jail time, to name a few.

In October 2009, Awad, Delonte’s first wife, filed a lawsuit against him alleging domestic violence.

The police allegedly discovered three guns during their investigation: a pistol, revolver, and shotgun. On November 20th, he was in court.

Delonte has been linked to LeBron James’s mother, Gloria James, according to sources.

West had been caught sleeping with James’ mother, according to reports. However, there was never any proof of the relationship.

During his time with the Mavericks, West was known for his outbursts towards the referee and teammates.

He was eventually diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, thanks to his therapist.

West reappeared in the news in October of 2021. He was arrested for pounding on the doors of a police station in Florida. While holding two bottles of booze in his hand, he insulted cops as well.

Wife, Daughters, and Girlfriend

Delonte West is married to Caressa Suzzette Madden and has two children from her. In 2012, a mutual friend introduced the couple.

Although we don’t know much about Caressa Suzzette Madden’s early life, we do know that she was with Delonte through thick and thin.

Madden is most usually known as West’s wife because she was born into a middle-class household and had little public exposure before dating the NBA player.

West allegedly proposed to Madden by cutting a piece of a jump rope from the garage and putting it around her finger because he couldn’t purchase a ring due to his persistent financial difficulties.

Madden is West’s second wife, and they have two children together, one of whom is Cast West.
