In elementary school, he began competing in national swimming contests.

He learned both football and swimming as a child.

Swimming, however, became more appealing to him and he began to pursue it full-time.

Kosuke Hagino, a well-known swimmer, had been his opponent since they were children.

For the childhood friends, the globe adversary is not an arch-nemesis, but rather colleagues battling for a common goal.

In elementary school, the comrades first met at a summer national tournament.

Hagino, who was widely regarded as a “genius swimmer,” was trounced in the tournament.

Later, in the 400m individual medley, he defeated Haino. The cordial rivalry eventually turned into a friendship.

Both have progressed to become elite Japanese swimmers, yet their relationship remains unbroken.

Takahide Mabuchi’s daughter, Yuka Mabuchi, is a well-known diving coach.

Member of the diving committee of the Japan Swimming Federation.

Head Coach of the All Japan National Team. He was born and reared in China and is now a naturalized Japanese citizen.

Yuka was drawn to diving and swimming from a young age, following in her father’s footsteps.

Her first Hikomi (a popular Japanese diving competition) was when she was six years old.

She has numerous medals from interscholastic and national tournaments.

She did, however, proclaim her retirement after her marriage to Seto.

While she stated that marriage had no influence on her decision, Seto stated that she was weary of competing and desired something else for herself.

The couple met and fell in love at a swimming competition. On May 24, 2017, Seto announced their engagement on Instagram.

On October 1, that year, a lavish wedding reception was hosted at a Toko hall.

Yuwa, the couple’s first child, was born on June 26, 2018. They will have another daughter in March 2020.

Both birth announcements were made through social networking platforms.

Scandal Over Extramarital Affairs

On September 23, the Japanese news site ‘Daily Shinco’ published an article on the renowned swimmer, which shocked admirers.

Daiya Seto was seen with his fiancée in a specific hotel, and he was accused of having an extramarital affair.

Seto came forward the next day and admitted to the claims.

Following the upheaval, sponsors and companies began to avoid Daiya. As a result, all of his adverts were removed.

Furthermore, his significant affiliation contract with All Nippon Airways was revoked because “he was no longer worthy of corporate image.”

Daiya Seto immediately told the JOC and the Japan Swimming Federation that he would resign the position of team captain for the Tokyo Olympics.

According to Japanese swimming officials, his acts broke the code of sportsmanship and hurt the federation’s reputation.

The Japanese swimming organization levied the following sanctions on Seto:

  • Suspension of activities throughout the year, such as participation in official JSF events, training camps, and international tours.
  • In the second half of 2020, the recommendation of a sports promotion fund subsidy will be suspended.
  • Participation in the Future Japan Swimming Federation education program, the JOC integrity education program, the basic training program, and so on.

According to Japanese citizens, Japan places a strong importance on family and ethics.

As a result, anyone who attempts to cross the line will almost certainly be severely punished.

Seto then remarked that he did not know how to apologize.

Furthermore, he claims that his apologies are to continue swimming and to regain his family’s trust.

Yuka has yet to speak out about the incident.

While he was barred from competing in the next national games, he was permitted to compete in the Tokyo Olympics and train privately.

He will also be required to complete the Japanese Olympic Committee’s ‘morality education as well as other courses.
