Adam Copeland

Adam Copeland is an actor and a professional wrestler in WWE. Adam Copeland made his WWE debut in1996, but he was initially disliked by the crowd. He was portrayed as a problematic, apt, and nasty character in his WWE gimmick.

Edge’s name was recommended to WWF by none other than the great Bret Hart. Bret saw Edge wrestle once and immediately recognized his potential, so he assisted him in obtaining a developmental deal.

Early Life and Education

Adam Copeland was born on October 30, 1973, in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. Judy Lynn Copeland, the wrestler’s single mother, raised him.

Judy used to work nights and weekends to help support her two sons (Edge and Neil) and provide a better life for them. He had no idea who his father was or what he looked like.

From the age of ten, Joseph used to go to a lot of wrestling matches.

Adam met his future teammate, “Christian,” at an event when he was ten years old. Adam then went to witness Wrestlemania VI in his hometown when he was seventeen years old.

He was a huge fan of Hulk Hogan at the time, and he was there to support and cheer him on.

However, the Wrestlemania event inspired him to take wrestling more seriously, and he chose to pursue a career as a wrestler in the future.

Unfortunately, Adam was unable to enjoy his adolescent years since he was forced to shoulder the financial burden of his family owing to a financial crisis.

So, despite his love for wrestling, he had to give it up in order to focus on his job and bring in some cash. But he didn’t allow his love of wrestling to die within him.

Adam attended Orangeville District Secondary School for his primary schooling, and after graduating, he enrolled at Humber College.

He was given wrestling training in addition to studying at Humber.

After winning an essay competition, he received a free gym class at Sully’s Gym as a prize.

Adam earned his bachelor’s degree in radio broadcasting. Due to an unmanageable work schedule, the first day was difficult, but Edge eventually found time for his training.

Professional Life

Even though things were tough in the beginning, Adam managed to fit in his training and soon began performing in small independent events.

He was given the ring name Sexton Hardcastle at the time, and he used to train alongside his childhood buddy Christina.

Hard Impact was the name given to Christian and Edge’s squad later on. With each match, he improved and began to achieve notoriety.

As a result, Adam was offered a position with WWF in 1996.

Edge’s name was recommended to WWF by none other than the great Bret Hart. Bret saw Edge wrestle once and immediately recognized his potential, so he assisted him in obtaining a developmental deal.

Tag Team Matches in the WWF (now WWE)

Edge debuted in the WWF in 1999 as a member of Christian’s tag team. Edge was initially depicted as a loner, a maniac who would assault anyone.

Later, he formed an alliance with Gangrel and Christina and dubbed the group the Brood. However, the public did not enjoy this storyline, thus Edge debuted as a solo wrestler once more.

Edge won his first WWF title, the WWF Intercontinental Championship, in 1999. Unfortunately, Edge lost his championship against Jarrett just one day after gaining it.

Edge’s battle with the Hardy Boyz was making headlines at the moment, so WWE decided to keep the feud going and made Christian his sidekick.

After two failed efforts to reclaim the tag team title, the Hardy Boyz ultimately did so at Survivor Series in their third attempt.

Nonetheless, this victory earned both wrestlers a lot of respect, and people began to take them seriously.

Individual Matches

Following Christian’s betrayal of Edge, the best buddies became foes and degraded one another.

Even though Edge was unable to win the Intercontinental Championship against Christian, he was able to defeat Christian in a rematch at No Mercy to win the championship.

He was drafted to SmackDown after the WWF became WWE, which terminated the feud here. Adam began to have issues with Kurt Angle in SmackDown.

From 2001 to 2003, Joseph was embroiled in a number of feuds, ranging from Ray Mysterio to Kurt Angle to Chris Benoit, but none of them provided him with the results he desired.

Adam was constantly matched with someone who was sabotaging his singles career at the time.

First Significant Victory

Edge was selected to WWE in 2004, and it was then that he decided to concentrate on single contests.

Everything was normal until he made an appearance at WrestleMania 21, but his life altered after that.

That triumph, sometimes known as the “Money in the Bank” victory, granted him a direct shot at the World Championship.

Edge, on the other hand, was astute; he took his time and didn’t cash his Money in the Bank bag for quite some time. The main drama began when Edge began dating Lita, his rival’s girlfriend.

Edge eventually won the feud, as well as the girl, after a protracted verbal and physical battle.

Soon after, in 2015, when John Cena defended his WWE championship, he was exhausted, and Edge seized the opportunity to cash in his Money in the Bank.

He not only won the WWE title that night, but he also entered a new age of stardom. Edge earned the moniker “The Ultimate Opportunist” as a result of the brilliant action.

John Cena gave it his all to reclaim the title. From there, this rivalry garnered a lot of attention.

Even though Edge lost in the end, he had already established himself as one of the finest WWE superstars, so it was a win-win situation for him in any case.

Heavyweight Championship of the World

Edge, on the other hand, did not take long to cash in this time.

He cashed the contract and earned his first-ever World Heavyweight title just 24 hours after winning it. However, owing to injuries, Edge had to relinquish his title.

Edge, as vicious as he is, nailed another masterstroke after his comeback. Vickie Gurrero was the general manager of SmackDown at the moment, and he proposed to her to make things easier for him.

Then, thanks to his girlfriend’s influence, he was repeatedly offered title prospects. As a result, Edge has the most WWE titles of any Superstar in history, with 31.

However, they split off quickly, and Edge was unaffected. Everything was well; in 2010, he even defeated Alberto to win the global championship.

But then his life took a turn for the worst, and he had to make the difficult decision to retire.

Edge was a world champion in 2011, but he was medically unfit to wrestle due to a spin injury; it was a life-threatening injury. As a result, he retired, much to the disappointment of his followers.

Comback

Edge was occasionally spotted in WWE after his retirement. The wrestler was even inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Edge, on the other hand, made his WWE comeback almost ten years later in 2020 at the Royal Rumble event.

Edge not only made his comeback, but he also won the royal rumble after defeating thirty contenders, which caused the crowd to go berserk.

He then got into a brawl with Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns.

Against Miz and Maryse, he even teamed up with his wife Beth. That match was won by the Copeland pair from then on. After his return, Edge has yet to win a major tournament, but let’s hope his second innings are as excellent as his first.

A Career in Acting

Edge, like other wrestlers, tried his luck in Hollywood, and, happily, it paid off.

Throughout his acting career, Adam has been in a number of films and television shows. Beyond the Mat was Edge’s first film in Hollywood, which he made in 1999.

Following that, he appeared in films such as Highlander: Endgame (2000), Bending the Rules (2012), Dumb Luck (2015), and Interrogation (2016).

Nonetheless, it is the well-known programs The Flash and Vikings that have given him popularity and acclaim as an actor.

Other shows in which he has appeared include Weakest Link, Deal or No Deal, Ghost Eyes, and others.

Books

Adam was even the subject of a book, Adam on Edge, which was published in 2004. While most authors have their autobiographies written for them by others, Edge chose to write his own.

Personal Life

Adam Copeland is now blissfully married to Beth Phniox, although his personal life has been a shambles in the past. Adam has discovered the love of his life after two failed marriages.

Adam married Alannah Morley in 2001 after falling in love with her in 1998. However, this marriage did not work out, and the couple divorced in 2004 after three years of marriage.

However, the same year, he married Lisa Ortiz, but shortly after their wedding, suspicions of Edge cheating on his wife with Lita surfaced.

Despite this, Edge and Lisa’s marriage began to suffer as a result of the uncontrollable flow of rumors, and they split just a year after getting married.

Furthermore, when Lita departed WWE, the Lita and Edge love narrative came to an end, and a new love story involving Vickie and Edge began, but it was all part of the WWE gimmick.

Adam was unmarried for a long time until he realized his feelings for Beth, who also happened to be his coworker.

Beth and Edge had their first child, Lyric Rose Copeland, in 2013, and their second child, Ruby Ever Copeland, in 2016. Edge and Beth married in 2016, thereby establishing their relationship.

Controversy

Copeland’s life has not been easy; he has experienced everything from childhood trauma to adult love disasters.

However, the most serious issue arose in 2007, when a reputable magazine highlighted Edge’s name and stated that he used drugs to improve his skill.

In his defense, Adam admitted to taking steroids, but only because he believed he had no other choice after suffering a neck ailment that was impairing his playing.

However, Adam maintained that he had broken no WWE rules and that the doctor had recommended everything.
