Who is Jonathan Toews?

Jonathan Toews is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. Jonathan Toews won three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL) (2010, 2013, and 2015).

Jonathan attracted notice for his offensive play, and he was taken third overall by the Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL draft, an “Original Six” team that had struggled in recent years.

Professional Life

The Chicago Blackhawks selected Toews third overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

In 2007, he signed a three-year entry-level contract, foregoing the remaining two years of education.

He also had the second-longest point run to begin his NHL career, recording 5 goals and 5 assists in each of his first ten games.

Jonathan suffered his first NHL injury in 2008 when he sprained his knee against the Los Angeles Kings.

Despite participating in only a few games due to injury, Toews was the top rookie scorer, finishing second only to fellow rookie Patrick Kane.

After a good first season, he was elected Blackhawks Captain in 2008.

He was 20 years old at the time, making him the third-youngest team captain in NHL history, after only Sidney Crosby and Vincent Lecavalier. This record was later broken.

The following season, he joined Kane and Brian Campbell as starters for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal, Quebec.

After 2002, he also assisted the Blackhawks in winning the Stanley Cup playoffs.

This decade’s career

Toews has been suffering from concussion-like symptoms since the start of the 2009-10 season, after being hit in the head by Vancouver Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchell.

He signed to a five-year, $6.5 million contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Toews finished the season with 68 points in 76 games.

Toews went on to earn a career-high hat trick and two assists as he led the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup victory since 1961, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in the Finals.

He became the NHL’s second-youngest captain to win the Stanly Cup.

He also received the Conn Smythe Trophy as postseason MVP.

When he won the Stanley Cup, he became the youngest captain in history to hold the Triple Gold Trophy, which includes the Olympic gold, the Stanley Cup, and the World Championship.

Toews missed the 2012 All-Star Game due to an injury sustained during a game with the Nashville Predators and was thus replaced.

He returned to the playoffs and played beautifully, scoring the game-winning extra goal to send Chicago back for Game 6, but they were finally ousted from the playoffs.

In 2013, Toews was back to his best. Jonathan contributed to the Blackhawks winning the President’s Trophy by leading his team to the greatest regular-season record.

He was also named the NHL’s top defensive forward, received the Frank J. Selke Trophy, and was named to the NHL’s Second All-Star Team.

International Achievement

Toews lead Canada to a gold medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2005, scoring the game-winning goal.

Jonathan Toews also represented Canada in the 2006 World Junior Championships.

Toews was the team’s youngest player and was instrumental in the team’s victory.

In 2007, he was chosen and won the tournament again.

He won his second World Junior gold medal in a row.

In the tournament semi-final against the United States, Toews scored three times in the shootout to go to the final.

He has previously played for the AHL’s Rockford Icehogs, the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, the Bakersfield Condors, the Idaho Steelheads, and the Utah Grizzlies.

He also signed a contract with the Reading Royals in 2013.

In terms of international play, David was a member of Hockey Canada’s national under-18 squad.

On August 8, 2007, David was named to the squad for the 2007 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
