Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth Both Died Tragically
‘Macho Man Randy Savage was one of WWE’s most popular wrestlers. But no description of him would be complete without including his real-life wife and valet, Miss Elizabeth.
Savage and Miss Elizabeth were legally married years before their wedding ceremony on WWE television in 1991.
Miss Elizabeth was gentle and graceful, whereas the Macho Man was fierce, with his distinctive raspy voice screaming “Oooh Yeah!”
However, the two functioned well together.
Liz was the driving force behind several of her husband’s TV feuds, the most well-known of which was the rise and collapse of The
Mega-Powers involving Hulk Hogan – possibly the best storyline in WWE history.
Even after their divorce in 1992, Savage and Miss Elizabeth maintained a professional relationship, both joining Ted Turner’s now-defunct WCW.
Unfortunately, Miss Elizabeth died in 2003, and Savage died a little over eight years later.
This is the story of probably pro wrestling’s most popular duo.
Randy Savage met Miss Elizabeth in his father’s wrestling promotion
Angelo Poffo, Savage’s father, founded his own independent wrestling promotion, International Championship Wrestling, in 1978 to give his two kids, Randy and Lanny, exposure.
Fans knew him as Leapin’ Lanny Poffo before he became “The Genius” in WWE.
Other promoters were outraged because Angelo frequently invaded protected territory, much like Vince McMahon did when he bought WWE from his father.
However, Angelo’s strategy clearly worked, as both Lanny and Savage rose to prominence in the industry.
Angelo hired a young Elizabeth Hulette to work as an ICW TV announcer.
She met Savage there. They hit it off right away and married in 1984.
In WWE, Savage and Miss Elizabeth had a fantastic run
Savage brought Miss Elizabeth with him when he made his WWE debut in 1985, establishing her as his manager on an episode of “Prime Time Wrestling.”
Over the next seven years, the tandem rose to prominence as two of WWE’s most popular performers.
Liz became more involved in the storylines after Savage regained the Intercontinental Championship from Tito Santana in 1986, beginning with Savage’s extended battle with George “The Animal” Steele.
Miss Elizabeth was largely responsible for Savage’s transformation into a babyface in 1987.
Fans found it difficult to boo the Macho Man with this stunning woman beside him.
Liz executed the perfect turn by leaping in front of her boyfriend to save him from a savage attack by the Honky Tonk Man and the Hart Foundation.
Hogan became interested in the story at this time.
He contributed to the formation of the Mega-Powers by assisting in the rescue of Savage.
When Savage won the WWE title for the first time with the assistance of the Hulkster at WrestleMania IV, he pulled Liz onto his shoulder, creating one of the most memorable pictures in WrestleMania history.
Over the next year, Hogan and Savage teamed up multiple times.
However, the Macho Man got envious of Hogan’s connection with Liz, which resulted in his incredible heel turn in February 1989.
Miss Elizabeth was ringside for the match between Savage and Hogan at WrestleMania V.
After Hogan defeated Savage for the title, the Macho Man and Liz went their separate ways for the next two years.
After losing a “retirement” match to the Ultimate Warrior, the two enjoyed an emotional reunion at WrestleMania VII.
This resulted in their marriage at SummerSlam in 1991.
Miss Elizabeth was the primary part of the WrestleMania VIII storyline with Ric Flair when Savage was “reinstated” to WWE in the spring of 1992.
The general public had no notion that the two were having real-life troubles and had separated at the time.
Later that year, they formalized their divorce. But their working relationship was not over.
In WCW’s ‘Macho Man,’ the two had a professional connection

Savage continued in WWE without Miss Elizabeth until 1994, when he joined Hulk Hogan in WCW.
Miss Elizabeth reappeared two years later, managing the couple at Clash of Champions before turning on her ex-husband a few weeks later.
In another feud with Flair, she brought up their real-life divorce.
Over the next few years, the two frequently crossed paths in plots.
She was on Savage’s side when he joined the nWo. But she wasn’t there when the factions divided.
When the Macho Man was injured in 1998, the couple broke up for good.
Gorgeous George, Savage’s real-life lover of 23 years, was his new valet when he returned in 1999.
Miss Elizabeth had already begun her on-screen and off-screen affair with Lex Luger.

Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth were killed in car accidents
When her contract with WCW terminated in 2000, Miss Elizabeth went to work at Luger’s gym in Georgia.
The two were involved in a marital dispute in April 2003.
After authorities discovered Liz with several bruises and slashes on her face, Luger was charged with misdemeanor assault.
He was free on bond.
Luger contacted 911 a few weeks later, on May 1, 2003, to report that Liz had stopped breathing.
When paramedics got to the townhouse, they tried to resuscitate her but she did not respond.
She was transferred to a local hospital and proclaimed dead as a result of acute poisoning caused by a combination of painkillers and alcohol.
Miss Elizabeth was just 42 years old when she was killed in an accident.
Randy Savage performed his final match for TNA in 2004.
He went on to do voiceover work for a number of animated films before marrying Lynn Payne in 2010.
WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, with whom Savage previously competed at WrestleMania, told ESPN that Savage was happy with his career and wanted to stay out of the spotlight.
Savage passed away on May 20, 2011, at the age of 58.
The two-time WWE champion suffered a heart attack while traveling with his wife in Florida, falling into a tree.
According to TampaBay.com, an autopsy later found that he had an enlarged heart and severe coronary disease.
At the time of his death, Savage also had painkillers and a tiny amount of alcohol in his system.
It had nothing to do with the vehicle collision.
Savage was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame posthumously in 2015.
Miss Elizabeth has yet to obtain that accolade for some reason.
