Who is Nicco Montano?

Childhood, Family, and Education

Nicco Montano was born in the U.S. state of Arizona’s Lukachukai, on December 16, 1988.

Frank Montano and Connette Blair were her parents at the time of her birth.

The largest Native American tribe in the country, the Navajo Nation, is where she was raised.

Nicco spent her childhood living with her mother and her family’s side.

Nicco never had the chance to meet her father when she was a child, in actuality.

Plus, Nicco’s father passed away when she was 18 years old. Farmington, New Mexico, was Nicco’s father’s home.

It wasn’t often that the father and daughter would interact. They would, however, always do it in the gym.

Father

Frankie Montano was Nicco’s father. He attended the gym for most of his life.

When it came to boxing in Farmington, he was quite well-known.

Nicco was uncomfortable going to her father’s gym.

She was given false information about her father because she shared a home with her mother and her family.

She didn’t hold resentment for his enthusiasm, though.

The desire to see Nicco as a fighter was something Frankie Montano frequently expressed.

People in Farmington also knew Nicco as Frank’s daughter every time she went there, so they naturally assumed she was a fighter.

Little Montano was sometimes seen fighting with her father, despite her opposition to the idea of fighting.

She didn’t hesitate to say that she didn’t want to fight, though.

Her father’s boxing or gym were the focal points of all of their interactions.

Nicco must therefore have grown up captivated by the fighting scene, at least subliminally.

Ancestry

As a “native” or “indigenous,” Nicco describes herself.

She prefers using these titles rather than the more common “Native American,” which most indigenous perceive as little more than a government label.

Her ancestry is Hispanic, Chickasaw, and Dine. The Navajos are referred to as “Dine”. Nicco did grow up in the Navajo Nation, after all.

Her mother is mixed-race, being Chickasaw and Navajo. She has a Hispanic father. Nicco is now half Hispanic and half Navajo, which makes him a quarter Chickasaw.

In the Southwest of the country, Montano is a sizable city. She represents her entire community in what they refer to as a larger picture of America.

Nicco hopes that her successes would make her home culture shine. She desires to advocate for the advancement of her indigenous people using her celebrity and platform.

Education

In Arizona, Nicco originally attended Chinle High School. 2006 saw her graduate from there.

Montano attended Arizona State University in Mesa, Arizona, after graduating. But she changed schools and enrolled at Dine College in Tsaile, Arizona.

She was therefore accepted to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, for her capstone project.

Career in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Beginning

Nicco would travel to Farmington and Four Corners MMA to train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu after her father passed away in 2006.

She was still unsure, though, about making a career out of fighting. The same thing happened when she decided to study cardio kickboxing.

She was forced to compete in an amateur MMA match by the people she trained with and even her coaches. She eventually proved to be extraordinarily good.

Theoretical explanations for the relationship between what Montano was doing and what her father had envisioned for her career suddenly struck her.

Nicco additionally enrolled at Durango Martial Arts Academy while attending Fort Lewis College there.

She had the chance to hone her love and enthusiasm for martial arts there.

Similar to Nicco, around the end of 2015, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She did it to attend Fit NHB training.

Initiation

The Ultimate Fighting

Nicco was one of 16 MMA fighters chosen for The Ultimate Fighter Crew 26.

United States Fighting Championship (UFC)

In December 2017, Nicco was prepared to face Sijara Eubanks for the UFC championship.

As a result of Sijara’s failing health, it was, however, impossible. In comparison to most male combatants, Eubanks indulged in significant weight loss.

She also acknowledged that she made a calculating error during her weight loss that prevented her from losing the requisite 125 pounds for the competition.

(2017–2018) Kidney failure

Due to an unhealthy and extreme weight loss from “The Ultimate Fighter 26” Finale, she also had to suffer kidney failure.

Roxanne Modafferi took the stage in place of Eubank. Nicco proved her worth by unanimously overcoming a formidable opponent.

She then won “The Ultimate Fighter 26” and the first women’s flyweight belt in UFC history.

Montano was awarded the Fight of the Night bonus as a result. She was extremely pleased with the decision because it was something she had worked so hard to obtain.

On September 8, 2018, Nicco was about to compete for the UFC 228 card in Dallas, Texas.

Her fight with Valentina Shevchenko, however, was rescheduled. After she missed the weigh-in for her UFC 228 fight, she was later eliminated as a possibility.

She was actually rushed to the hospital before of the weigh-in as a precaution due to a decline in her health.

In addition, Montano had elevated sodium levels, electrolyte imbalance, and kidney problems. She also expressed her deep disappointment in the UFC for removing her belt.

Because Nicco tested positive for the illegal drug ostarine, USADA suspended him for six months.

On October 25, 2018, a test taken outside of competition revealed that she had ostarine in her system.

She then consented to a six-month suspension that started on November 15, 2018. In essence, she was temporarily barred from competition.

2019/2020

Furthermore, Sara McMann’s women’s bantamweight matchup against Montano was scheduled for that day, July 30, 2019.

McMann however, was unable to participate due to an injury. McMann stepped aside, and Julianna Pena took her position. Nicco was forced to accept defeat after a unanimous verdict.

The following fight, UFC Fight Night 167, scheduled Montano to face Macy Chiasson on February 15, 2020.

She was injured, though, and was unable to compete in her UFC bantamweight match. She was replaced in the competition by Shanna Young.

Furthermore, on August 8, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 174, Nicco was slated to face Julia Avila.

Nevertheless, because Montano’s coach had a positive Covid-19 test, the fight was moved to UFC Fight Night 176.

Similar to Nicco , the match had to be moved to UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Aldana because Nicco too tested positive for Covid-19.

However, Montano pulled out of the fight due to some travel limitations.

The matchup between Julia Avila and Sijara Eubanks was later moved to UFC Fight Night 177 on September 12, 2020.

Assault

Nicco Montano claimed that Justin Watson assaulted her in December 2021. She posted an explanation of the harassment she received on Instagram from the man in a Texas motel.

Montano claimed that she had been kicked, stomped on, and had her hair pulled. Then, still unclothed, she was forced to sprint along the hotel hallway.

Then someone from the hotel overheard her and helped her. Montano then disclosed that she had been checked into a hospital.

The problem was also handled by Montano’s manager, Ricky Kottenstette, who stated that the actress had scans for her wounds and would likely be discharged later that day.
