Education and Early Career

At the age of ten, Kite began participating in basketball. He participated in sports like football and soccer in addition to basketball.

Greg was a young boy who attended Pershing Junior High and played basketball there for a while. Later, he transferred to Madison High School, where Lee Tynes served as his coach.

Kite spent three years playing basketball in high school. Madison finished first in Texas and fifth overall in 1979.

Despite having a perfect 39-0 record, Madison High School in Texas lost to Lufkin High School in the playoffs.

Along with Sam Bowie, Isaiah Thomas, Sidney Green, and other players that year, Kite was also chosen to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Kite was sought out by Kentucky, Duke, and UCLA. He ultimately chose to play for Brigham Young University, where Frank Arnold served as his coach.

He also participated in collegiate sports with future teammates Danny Ainge and Fred Roberts.

During his collegiate years, he played for a number of prestigious teams, including Princeton, UCLA, and Notre Dame. He also had the chance to participate in the 1981 NCAA Division Basketball Tournament.

Boston Celtics

Kite has had a 12-year, healthy career with the NBA. Greg played as a center for the Celtics for eight seasons, winning two championships.
