Jacob Elordi discusses his sexuality
In an interview with GQ on August 8, 2022, Jacob Elordi discussed being labeled gay at school as a result of his burgeoning acting career.
When he was 12, the Kissing Booth star began acting in school productions in Australia.
Unfortunately, his peers frequently chastised him for this.
In school, he was frequently referred to as gay. This, however, had no effect on his self-esteem or confidence.
In contrast, it was the inverse. He excelled at sports and theater, giving him an “abundance of confidence” in himself.
“I was quite good at sport, and I think I was quite good at the theater,” he said. It made me feel older or like I was above it. It gave me a sense of wisdom.”
Similarly, he didn’t care what his classmates thought of him. He was never concerned that they would consider him “less than a man.”
“There’s the classic thing of me doing plays with girl schools,” he continued. I spend my weekends reading the most romantic words ever written with the most beautiful women from the school next door.”
The more people teased Elordi about his feminine side, the more he embraced it.
In school, he remembered playing Oberon from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Oberon is the king of the fairies and a transgender character.
The actor went all out for the part, wearing leather jackets, purple glitter on his face, pink stripes in his hair, and rings on his fingers.
“I began to welcome those types of characters. I began to embrace femininity. I began speaking with my hands. “I started acting like a thespian,” Elordi explained.
Jacob Elordi was ecstatic to play Oberon for a variety of reasons.
But it was the character’s refusal to conform to traditional gender roles that piqued his interest.
This encouraged him to continue on his path, despite all the rumors about his sexuality.
the fact that there is no competition. I’m going to do it and show you that it’s [expletive].”
Elordi also questioned labeling and confirming sexuality during the interview.
“I could never understand, how could you label anything, ever?” he said. How could sport be considered masculine? “How does your sexuality influence your ability as an athlete or performer?”
