In the process, Zach struck out Jung Ho Kang for his first career strikeout, and he won his first Major League game, a 9-1 triumph over Miami.

After that, Davies was named September/October pitcher of the month after finishing the season with a 15.0-inning scoreless streak.

Zach was deemed the best player in the organization by Baseball America as the year progressed.

To take it one at a time, he had thrown 6.2 no-hit innings against Oakland, while striking out a career-high 9 batters against St. Louis.

As a result, he has been named the June Brewers Pitcher of the Month. He threw to a 3.97 ERA in 28 games towards the end of the season.

He became the 10th pitcher in franchise history to win at least 17 games in a season shortly after that.

He also passed Zack Greinke of the Arizona Diamondbacks for second place in the National League, following only Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Projections

This winter, Davies was eligible for arbitration for the final time. In the Yu Darvish trade, the right-hander was acquired from the Padres last month.

SS prospect Reginald Preciado, OF prospect Owen Caissie, OF prospect Ismael Mena, and SS prospect Yeison Santana were also acquired by Chicago.

They are, however, all under the age of 20 and are unlikely to have an impact in Major League Baseball for at least a couple of years.

Unless the Cubs opt to trade Davies as part of what is quickly becoming a possibly big offseason fire sale, Davies should immediately rise to near the top of the rotation depth chart.

The organization is “extensively shopping” ace catcher Willson Contreras, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, while third baseman Kris Bryant is also on the market.

Further

All of the celebrities involved have been duped, and medical reports are likely to be filed.

The Padres will get Darvish and Victor Caratini in exchange for Davies, Reginald Preciado, Owen Caissie, Ismael Mena, and Yeison Santana, according to reports.

Davies is the only player in the return package for Chicago who has been confirmed, and none of the minor leaguers are among the Padres’ top-10 internal rankings.

Caissie, on the other hand, was drafted in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft, and Preciado is a dependable young shortstop.

However, this appears to be a quantity-over-quality, salary-dump move by the Cubs.

Padres of San Diego

On November 27, 2019, the Brewers traded Davies, Trent Grisham, and cash considerations to the San Diego Padres in exchange for Luis Uras and Eric Lauer.

The Padres offered him a one-year, $5.25 million contract.

Until 2020, he was 7-4 with a 2.73 ERA, tied Max Fried for second-most victories in the National League. They were both cheering on league leader Yu Darvish’s eight victories.

Love Life

Zach Davies is currently married to Megan Davies, his high school sweetheart. During the offseason in December 2016, the couple married in Arizona.

After a year of dating, they married in the El Chorro, a private restaurant in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

The couple has yet to conceive children, but they have acquired two dogs named Zooey and Penelope, who are unquestionably adorable.
