Dan stated that he came out of the closet at the age of 18, to which his father,
Eugene, responded that he and his wife [Dan’s mother] were already aware.
Similarly, Dan spoke openly about his mother’s role in assisting him in coming out and feeling comfortable.
“My mum invited me over for lunch one day, and I said, ‘Yes,'” he explained.
She was fairly certain. In that regard, my mother and I had a really tight relationship,
and it almost felt as if she knew I was ready.”
Later, in a September 2020 interview with Attitude,
Dan discussed felt compelled to support the LGBTQ+ community because he had amassed a sizable platform.
He also considered the possibility of writing a tale on his and his friends’ experiences.
“It felt sort of irresponsible not to embrace that chance and create tales that meant something,
and things that I haven’t really seen that much on television,” he added.

about the difficulties he faced while dating life in college.
