June Baranco is the ex-wife of Bryant Charles Gumbel, an American journalist, and sportscaster Gumbel co-hosted NBC Today for 15 years.

Bryant, Baranco’s ex-husband, was the first to inform CBS viewers of the September 11 attacks.

Barranco’s ex is also well-known for playing himself on the NBC series Seinfeld.

While Bryant struggles to avoid the tabloid spotlight, his ex-wife, June, has become a talking point.

People feel that following her dramatic break-up with a Bates College alumnus, she may not have much to say for herself.

Bio of June Baranco

June was born on June 22, 1948, to Jeannie and the late Joseph Barranco.

She will be 73 years old in 2021.

Darryl and Joseph, her two brothers, raised her in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Joe, her other brother, was a U.S. Army veteran who had gotten two Purple Hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He died on February 4, 2006.

Her aunt Eura was a seamstress who taught her how to sew by hand when she was 8 or 9 years old.

June is descended from the Creole/Cajun race of Louisiana.

People compared her appearance to Tina Turner in her teens and even in her 50s.

Baranco went to Louisiana State University to study.

She graduated from college in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

Bryant Gumbel and June Baranco’s Relationship

June has been married to Bryant for 28 years.

On December 1, 1973, the future long-time monarch of NBC’s Today and Baranco married at a Catholic church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

June met her husband Bryant while they were teenagers in the late 1960s.

It was one of her friends, who was dating Gumble’s brother Gregg, that introduced them.

They met for the first time in Chicago, where they both had relatives.

It was the summer between high school and college in June.

Despite the fact that they were both from the same state, Baranco had never encountered anyone like him.

They eventually began dating when they “had nothing in the bank but ambition.”

Gumbel used to reside in a tiny apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side at the start of their relationship, pursuing a career as a magazine sports writer.

June, on the other hand, would pay him a visit from Louisiana on occasion.

On one of those days, Gumbel’s father ended up speaking with June on a tour of Chicago and grew to like her.

They bought their first home in Woodland Hills, California, and then another in Calabasas, California.

They also went on to acquire a mansion in Manhattan valued at more than $3 million.

June Baranco and her ex-husband have two children.

Bryant and June had two children, Bradley (born on New Year’s Day 1979) and Jillian (born in 1983), while sailing through life as husband and wife.

The LSU alum’s children are all grown up and making quite a reputation for themselves.

Jillian Beth, June’s daughter, is a fitness trainer who teaches athletes yoga, transcendental meditation, and mobility yoga.

Jillian earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Sarah Lawrence College.

June and Bryant’s daughter also attended the University of Colorado Boulder for two years before dropping out.

In 2011, she married William Russell Robins, and the couple has two sons.

Bradley Baranco attended Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, but transferred to Manhattanville College.

He dropped out of Manhattanville and began working as an event director for a media company.

In contrast to his superstar father, the six-foot-five Bradley Gumbel has led a quiet life.

Gumbel Jr. was also a standout basketball player at Columbia Prep.

On September 15, 2014, he was seen at the UNICEF Book Party at The Lamb’s Club in New York City.

His mother, on the other hand, has uploaded his most recent image while wishing him on National Son’s Day on September 29, 2020, via her Instagram page.

Her Son Was Mistook For A Mugger, and He Was Arrested Twice

Bradley was arrested in New York City in 2002 when a lady falsely identified him as her mugger.

According to court filings, a woman in her thirties was robbed of her purse and shoved to the ground.

The unnamed thug then bolted from her view.

When she described the attacker as a tall black man, the police moved on to confront Gumbel Jr, who happened to be in the same neighborhood that night.

Given the paucity of evidence, the court described the occurrence as “a clear case of mistaken identification.”

As a result, he was cleared of any misconduct in that instance.

However, Bradley’s father, Gumbel, later said that it was more of a race issue than a misunderstanding.

June’s then-29-year-old son, Bradley, was contacted by police again six years later, in November 2008, but this time for reasons unrelated to his identification.

Brad was detained for allegedly driving under the influence.

Gumbel-eldest Baranco’s child was apprehended about 3 a.m. by NY State Troopers after they saw his 2005 Toyota 4-Runner SUV swerving on the roadway.

When cops approached the vehicle, they noticed Gumbel was sleeping and reeked of alcohol.

His blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit for driving under the influence.

Brad also broke the law by driving while his license was suspended.

June Baranco’s divorce from Bryant was a shambles.

After nearly three decades of marriage, the pair divorced in 2001.

The former flight attendant revealed that the last time Gumbel and she shared a bed was on June 28, 1997.

Despite the fact that they split up only after the turn of the century, their relationship had deteriorated since the mid-’90s. June, according to some reports, threatened to leave the Emmy-winning reporter in 1995.

According to June, she spent her 50th birthday, as well as their 24th, 25th, and 26th anniversaries, alone.

What Caused June Baranco and Bryant Gumbel’s Divorce

Gumbel’s then-wife, June, told the Washington Post in 2000 that he cheated on her throughout their marriage.

June had discovered the letters, which all detailed his womanizing behaviors.

Moreover, photos of her spouse out on the town with other ladies had been magazine fodder for years.

June had also overheard him conversing with his girlfriend.

Gumbel was rumored to be having an affair with Hilary Quinlan, a former Goldman Sachs analyst turned model.

During the divorce, Baranco accused him of reducing her monthly stipend to $250 and refusing to pay their son’s phone bill.

In June, the economy deteriorated even further.

Her credit cards were rejected one after the other at one point.

Gumbel’s lawyer, Stanley Arkin, responded by saying she “lives like a modern-day female pasha.”

The divorce appears to have had an effect on the ratings of The Early Show.

Later, a judge ordered the anchor to begin paying his ex $4,000 every month.

Settlement of Divorce

June was awarded the couple’s Upper East Side apartment and opulent Westchester house during the August 2001 hearings.

She also received half of Gumbel’s riches.

Surprisingly, the 1993 Journalist of the Year responded to all of this by saying, “I’m simply thrilled to have my life back.”

He did, however, propose that the Westchester property be shared, which Baranco refused.

According to her, The Trumpet Award winner requested shared custody because he wanted to take his fiancée there and it was close to his gold club.

She claimed it would have been terrible for her because she had made many great memories on that place.

While Bryant has never publicly revealed the reason for their divorce, his ex-wife June has stated that his infidelity was to blame.

She also claimed that the NBC personality verbally mistreated her during their marriage.

Despite this, the 1988 Olympic host denied being cheap with his wife or children or disparaging the former.

Bryant Gumbel, her ex-husband, has moved on with a model.

As previously stated, she was his long-time friend and the female with whom the Peabody winner was having a relationship while married to June.

They married in Palm Beach in August 2002 at the Breakers Hotel.

Only about 25 friends and family members attended the ceremony.

The most visible African-American anchor proposed to her in December 2001, four months after his divorce from his first wife was finalized.

June’s ex-husband was diagnosed with cancer.

Gumbel confirmed his cancer diagnosis during an interview for Live With Regis and Kelly in December 2009.

Since late 2008, the anchor has been undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous growth from his lung.

Prior to the therapy, he was also invited to compete on Dancing With The Stars.

Though the actual cause of lung cancer is never known, many suspected that his disease was caused by his chain smoking.

The journalist used to smoke three packs a day when he was in his twenties.

He gave up the habit after landing a position at CBS News.

In December 2010, the Louisiana native was declared cancer-free.

June Baranco, Bryant Gumbel’s ex-wife, owns a successful hat business.

June was last seen working as a milliner and running her business, Geaux Chapeaux, in Westchester County, New York.

The company sells handcrafted hats, headpieces, and bridal millinery. ‘geaux’ is pronounced ‘go’ in Creole/Cajun roots.

She enjoys collecting vintage hats, textiles, hat blocks, lace, ribbons, and other accessories.

She explained that she frequently spent her time researching how they were created.

However, hats and the success of Geaux Chapeaux are where the former Gumbel partner is devoting all of her attention these days.

Her objective is to assist fashion-forward ladies to express their personalities through distinctive hats.

Two of June’s hats survived Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding in 2018.

Adrienne Bankert, a former ABC correspondent, was one of the bearers.

Oil paintings, pastels, printmaking, drawing, pottery, stained glass, and apparel creations occupy the Cajun’s time.

Bryant’s ex-wife is a member of The Pastel Society, The Portrait Society, The Salmagundi Club, Artist Fellowship, and The Katonah Museum Artist Association in Katonah, New York.

Her art has been exhibited in New York, California, Connecticut, Louisiana, and the United Kingdom.

Bradley’s mother worked as a flight attendant for Delta in the early 1970s.

As a result, she spent much of her childhood in California.

She later left her work to meet her mother’s obligation.

She was said to be working as an artist with a studio in Westchester after the wedding.
