Is a Re-Animator remake in the works? Will Bruce Abbott Play Again?

Another question that comes up whenever Bruce Abbott is mentioned is whether his 1985 comedy-horror film, Re-Animator, will be rebooted.

The plot revolves around a scientist who arrives at a New England college and conducts strange experiments on his roommate and his roommate’s girlfriend. They move on to human cadavers after reanimating feline tissue.

There is a frenetic and violent zombie-like commotion that ensues, as well as numerous killings.

Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator is the two sequels of the film.

In 2011, when asked about the possibility of a remake, Bruce stated,

“I saw the originals, so I didn’t see the need to remake it.” It’s something I appreciate (the remake). It’s simply gnarly.”

The most recent update on this story came in September 2016, when Indie Wire teased that the new Re-Animator film would be directed by Serge Levin and starring Johnathon Schaech.

The title was also set to be Re-Animator: Evolution.

To date, no credible follow-up to that piece has occurred.
