“Where is Kelly McGillis these days?”
During her 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight,
McGillis answered some burning questions about her present life,
what she had been up to, and why she wasn’t in Top Gun: Maverick.
McGillis’ life focus shifted after 2000 when she took fewer performing parts,
and this decision came after she became sober and embarked on a journey to discover herself.
She stated, “I think just my priorities in life changed.”
“It wasn’t like I made a big decision to go; it was just that other things became more essential.”
I love acting, I love what I do, I love doing theater, but I don’t know.
My relationships with others become considerably more important to me than my relationship with fame.”
“I consider myself quite fortunate not to have to work, you know?”
But I have the opportunity to work, so I consider myself really fortunate in that regard.
“Not many individuals get that opportunity later in life, so I consider myself quite fortunate,” McGillis continued.
And one of the objectives she had was to nurture her two girls
– Kelsey and Sonora – whom she shares with her ex-husband Fred Tillman.
When she wasn’t acting, she said she was focused on raising her children.
She remarked, “It was really tough for me to have any type of sense of self
or self-identity or actual self-worth other than what I did for a profession.
And it just didn’t become a priority; what did become a priority first was raising my daughters and being the best sober dad I could be.”
During McGillis’ interview with Entertainment Tonight,
she was questioned if she was requested to be a part of Top Gun:
Maverick or if she chose not to be a part of the now-box office hit sequel film.
She stated that she wasn’t asked to return to Top Gun: Maverick.
“Oh my god, no,” she said. “I’m old and fat, and I look age-appropriate for my age,” she added.
And that is not what the whole sequence is about.”
“I’d rather be fully secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age than place a value on all that other stuff,” she says.
She went on to say that she wasn’t in a hurry to see the sequel film,
which was supposed to be released in 2019 but was postponed because of COVID-19.
“I believe it depends on what type of reviews it receives.
I’m not hurrying to the theater, and I’m not racing away from the theater to see it.
It’s just not on my tiny list of things that I would like to get done,”
McGillis told the newspaper.
“I didn’t want every plot to continually be looking backward,”
director Joseph Kosinski told Insider why McGillis wasn’t in the film.
It was critical to include some fresh characters.”
There haven’t been many updates on her since that interview.
It’s safe to presume she’s been doing well and sticking to her priorities.
She did, however, return to Hollywood for a cameo appearance as Miriam Saslaw in the 2020 TV drama Dirty John.
However, McGillis, who is now 65 years old and has 54 acting credits to her name,
maybe enjoying her time away from the entertainment scene.
In 2013, she told Yahoo! that she worked outside the profession to support herself and her family.

And the jobs included one as a teacher and one at a rehabilitation clinic.
“I did have another job for a bit, and it was working at a drug and recovery clinic,” she told the site.
Right now, I am primarily teaching acting privately in tiny studio that goes with a school in Asheville, North Carolina.”
“I believe it is my time to give back, and I know how to do it.” And yeah, I live a peaceful, tiny life. ”
I live in a log cabin on the top of a hill in North Carolina, and it’s beautiful,” she continued.
So, it could be feasible that she still resides in North Carolina and has the same career,
but it couldn’t be asserted with absolute confidence without any confirmation.
