Who is Vicente Luque?

Vicente Luque has a lot of talent, but he wouldn’t be where he is today if he didn’t have a strong love and enthusiasm for mixed martial arts. Today, Vicente Luque is a proud MMA fighter connected with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a mixed martial arts promotion corporation established in Nevada, United States.

Vicente Luque was born in Westwood, New Jersey, on November 15, 1991.

He was born in Chile to Pepe Luque, a Chilean father, and Maria Aparecida, a Brazilian mother.

His grandmother worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brazil.

Her profession required her to relocate frequently.

She and her daughter, Maria, relocated to Chile from Brazil.

Vicente Luque’s parents then met, fell in love, and married.

Their marriage, however, was doomed to fail.

Vicente was six years old when his parents divorced.

While his parents were still married, the entire family relocated to New Jersey, United States.

Vicente was born during their stay.

Vicente’s family returned to Brasilia when he was six years old.

Even though he was born in the United States, he grew up there and considered it his hometown.

He refers to himself as a Brasiliense and vows to always fight for Brasilia.

Furthermore, Vicente Luque believes that his hometown is fortunate for him and that fighting there is always preferable.

Luque spent his upbringing in a variety of countries.

His family then pressed him to study several languages.

In reality, he speaks Spanish, English, and Portuguese fluently.

While living in the United States, he recalls speaking Portuguese with his grandmother and mother, Spanish with his father and his side of the family, and English with his friends.

When they returned to Brasilia, his English command improved, even more, thanks to his mother’s particular tutoring.

Beginning of a Mixed Martial Arts Career

Vicente Luque learned many forms of martial arts as a child.

During his adolescence, he also studied Muay Thai, kickboxing, and jiu-jitsu.

In 2008, Vicente Luque decided to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

In early 2014, he became involved with The Ultimate Fighter.

However, he already had a 7-4-1 MMA record while competing for numerous regional promotions in Brazil.

The Ultimate Combatant (TUF)

Luque was chosen as a fighter for The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians in February 2015.

He established himself as an essential member of the Blackzilians squad.

Glenn Robinson, the owner of the Blackzilians, placed a lot of faith in Luque.

In reality, he considered Luque to be a champion.

Vicente Luque battled against Nathan Coy of Oregon State University, an All-American wrestler.

In the dispute, Coy represented the American Top Team.

It was a raging feud. It lasted three rounds.

Luque dominated the first round, however, Coy outperformed him in the second.

The battle was then decided in the third round.

Vicente Luque won the battle, earning the Blackzilians 50 points.

Hayder Hassan of the American Top Team was sent to fight against Vicente Luque in the Semifinals.

Luque gave an excellent performance but was unable to win. He was defeated by a split decision.

TUF, on the other hand, recognized Luque as a champion and awarded him a UFC fight in the finale.

2015/2016 Ultimate Fighting Championship

On July 12, 2015, Luque made his official UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale.

He competed against Michael Graves of the American Top Team.

Luque performed poorly. Indeed, his movements were sloppy.

He lost the bout by unanimous decision from then on.

This must be a memory that Luque wishes to delete from his system.

The UFC decided to rematch Vicente Luque vs. Hayder Hassan on December 19, 2015.

He was hired on 11-day notice to replace Luan Chagas, who was injured.

He was declared the winner of the fight midway through the second round by submission via D’Arce choke.

Luque then challenged MMA Champion Chad Laprise at UFC Fight Night 129 on May 19, 2018.

He won the competition in the first round by knockout.

Likewise, Vicente Luque faced promotional rookie Jalin Turner on October 6, 2018, at UFC 229.

He won that competition as well, via knockout in the first round.

2019

Similarly, on February 17, 2019, Luque faced Bryan Barberena at UFC on ESPN 1.

They fought for two competitive rounds, and both means performed admirably.

Despite this, Vicente Luque won by technical knockout at the end of the third round after knocking Barberena down with a knee and finishing with punches.

As a result, he became the first person to hand Barberena his first stoppage loss via technical knockout.

Vicente’s victory also earned him the Fight of the Night award.

Then, on May 18, 2019, Luque was slated to face Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 152.

Magny, however, tested positive for Di-Hydroxy-LGD-4033 and had to withdraw from the tournament.

Derrick Krantz, a newcomer, stepped forward to take Magny’s place.

Nonetheless, Vicente Luque won via technical knockout in round one.

Furthermore, on August 10, 2019, Luque contested against Mike Perry at UFC on ESPN+ 14.

He was victorious in a split decision. With this victory, he also got the Fight of the Night award.

Similarly, Luque faced Stephen Thompson at UFC 244 on November 2, 2019. He was defeated by a unanimous decision.

2020

Luque was then slated to face Randy Brown at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris on April 11, 2020.

Because of Covid-19, the event could not take place.

Vicente Luque was also slated to meet Niko Price again in a rematch at UFC 249 on April 18, 2020.

However, Dana White, the president of the UFC, confirmed that this event will be postponed.

The same fight was then held on May 9, 2020.

Vicente Luque won the competition by technical knockout after a doctor stopped the fight in round three.

Price’s battle with Niko culminated in a bloody brawl after Luque delivered clean punches to the head.

Price had a large wound near his right eye as blood spilled out from his repeated hit.

Luque had apparently caused Price the most harm by disfiguring his visage.

Despite his injuries, Price congratulated Luque on his victory, saying only a few words, “Luque, you’re my best opponent, guy!”

Likewise, the bout with Randy Brown took place on August 1, 2020, at UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan.

Vicente Luque won the match in the second round by technical knockout.

Recent Conflict

Vicente Luque challenged Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC 260 on March 27, 2021.

Their fight took place at Las Vegas’ Apex Facility and was broadcast live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

To illustrate the fight, Luque dominated the octagon from the start, while Woodley showed some aggression but eventually fell behind.

Luque had won by submission three minutes and 56 seconds into the fight.

With persistent fighting, Luque reacted quickly to deliver a choke and had no time to defend.

Upcoming Battle

Vicente Luque is preparing for his next bout after his stunning victory over Woodley, but it is unclear who he will face.
