Early career

Troy has always preferred baseball to football since he was a child. He had always hoped to play baseball at the University of Southern California and eventually join his pal in the major leagues.

As the small boy grew older, he began to prefer football to baseball. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys, and his favorite player was Roger Staubach.

He was an all-around fantastic guy in high school, participating in many events and being an all-around great guy.

Many colleges wanted Aikman to play baseball for them, but he decided to stick with football and joined Barry Switzer’s team at the University of Oklahoma.

He began his career as a quarterback as a freshman in 1984. Unfortunately, he was tracked and shattered his ankle during the second season against the Miami Hurricanes.

Troy eventually abandoned the game and enrolled at UCLA, where he was coached by Terry Donahue. He didn’t play in any games for the first season due to some college rules.

Troy played two games at UCLA, one with the Aloha Bowl and the other with the Cotton Bowl. They won 20-16 against the Aloha Bowl and 17-3 against the Cotton Bowl.

Troy finished his UCLA career as the second-best career passer in school history.

Cowboys of Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys selected the native American as their first-round draft pick in 1989. However, Troy was defeated 28-0 by the New Orleans Saints during his first season in the NFL.

He lost the first four games of his career, broke a finger, and finished the season with a 1-15 record.

Troy was subjected to a lot of criticism, and he was dubbed “Ache Man” in several publications. As Troy once put it:

In 1992, he had a strong start and finished the regular season with a 13-3 record. In Super Bowl XXVII, Aikman led the Cowboys to a 52-17 triumph over the Buffalo Bills.

California was voted Super Bowl MVP after completing 22 of 30 throws for 273 yards and four touchdowns.

Troy and the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills 30-13 in Super Bowl XXVIII in 1993. The Godfather Roy was forced to skip the 1994 game owing to a series of injuries.

The Cowboys had the best record in the NFL in 1995, scoring 3,300 yards. In the same year, the Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX, winning 27-17.

In addition, in 1997, Troy became the first quarterback in Cowboys history to throw for 3000-yards. Despite missing five games, Aikman was instrumental in Dallas’ NFC East title and playoff appearance.

He finished his career as the Cowboys’ all-time leading passer in April 2001, despite several health issues during the 2000 season.

The persistent back problems he had during the 2000 season were the main reason for his retirement.

Finally, he has 2,898 completions in 4,715 attempts for 32,942 yards and 165 touchdowns in 12 seasons with the Cowboys.
