High School Career
He received tremendous accolades from the audience for his performance during his first season of play for Atlanta’s Dutchtown High School.
After that, he participated in athletics for Miami’s Center of Life Christian Academy (CLCA).
He spent a lot of time honing his shooting and dunking skills on the school floor since he always thought he had a lot to learn.
He played for the CLCA for around two seasons, but he later discovered that his stint there did not ensure his eligibility for the NCAA.
He returned to L.G. Pinkton as a result, where he averaged 20.5 points and 13.2 rebounds in his senior year.
In the Class 4A Region II Tournament that year, he led his team in scoring. Rivals.com ranked him the 12th best senior recruit in the class of 2010 for his outstanding performance.
Similar to Perry Jones from Duncanville, Mitchell won numerous awards, including Player of the Year from the Dallas Morning News.
In 2010, he received an All-Star team selection from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Career in College
The NCAA eligibility concerns derailed Mitchell’s planned intention for him to play college basketball for the Missouri Tigers. For the same reason, he did not play in the 2010–11 season.
In the end, he decided to sign with the North Texas Mean Green team in 2011.
But his first college season let him forget all the difficulties he had to overcome upon entering the institution.
Mitchell finished the season as a redshirt freshman averaging 14.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest.
Apart from Anthony Davis, he was the only freshman in NCAA Division I to register a double-double that season.
He would have been among the first-round picks in the 2012 draft according to many well-known sports agencies and commentators, but he opted to stay in North Texas for his sophomore campaign.
Professional Career
In the 2013 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons selected Mitchell with the 37th overall choice. He was the first North Texas alum to be selected with that pick since John Horrocks in 1984.
On July 19, 2013, Tony agreed to a rookie-scaled contract with the Pistons.
Although there was some excitement surrounding his NBA debut, the team gave him much less playing time in his first year.
He only participated in 21 games, averaging 1.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per contest.
He played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and Grand Rapids Drive in the minor league through 2014 in addition to NBA regular season games.
Before traveling abroad to try his luck in international leagues, he also spent a brief period of time with the Phoenix Suns in late 2014.
Career in Foreign League
Tony traveled abroad to play in his first foreign league on February 5, 2015, after signing with the Puerto Rican team Atletico de San German.
He spent about eight months playing in the BSN League before coming back to the United States.
His time in his native country was brief, though, since he was only with the Golden State Warriors for a month.
Then, up until 2017, he moved throughout the world playing in international leagues such as the Israeli Liga Leumit, Chinese NBL, and Venezuelan Liga.
In addition, he briefly played for the Metros de Santiago of the Dominican league LNB and the Star Hotshots of the Philippine Basketball Association in 2017.
When the Taipei Fubon Braves won the Taiwanese league in 2019, it was his first and only league championship.

He has two of his five children, Tony III and Jaxson with Jasmine Godbolt. She and Tony had been friends while they were both students at the University of North Texas.
