Daphne Zuniga did not grow up intending to marry. Daphne Zuniga had witnessed enough marriages, both successful and disastrous, growing up, including those of her own parents, and she did not want to give up what she had built in her work.
That all changed when she met her future husband, David Mleczko. She was finally ready to marry him after being with him for 12 years and engaged for two and a half years.

Zuniga and Mleczko originally met in 2007 on a blind date.
The Melrose Place actress had never married before, but Mleczko, a businessman, had three children from his previous marriage.
They hit it off and thus began their decade-long relationship.
They went through “so much together,” she said in a People interview in 2019.
And as the years passed, Zuniga became increasingly convinced that he was THE ONE for her.
“I knew I’d be with him for the rest of my life,” she told People.
Even before they got engaged, she felt he was “like a husband.”
Nonetheless, her reservations about marriage remained.
Mleczko proposed to Zuniga in early 2017
Drew some criticism from her family, particularly her sister.
“At a family dinner,” the actress remembered, “[her sister] toasted everyone and said, ‘When are you going to make my sister an honest woman?'” That question, which she dismissed as “cliche,” triggered something in her.
Mleczko’s sister’s open plea also planted a “bug” in her, and she began to wonder if she should marry after all.
She was hyper-focused at work before meeting her husband.
She didn’t let her personal life get in the way of her profession.
In August 2019, she told Glamour, “I also connected marrying someone with giving up who I was.”
“And the last thing I wanted to feel was pressure to abandon a career I had worked so hard for.”
When the marriage bug bit her, she knew not only was Mleczko the one for her but also that the timing was perfect.
“It simply seems like a fresh start.
Waiting that long was ideal for me “Zuniga admitted to People.
Her marriage seemed to have happened exactly when it should have.

Zuniga and Mleczko married on June 8, 2019, after a two-and-a-half-year engagement.
They chose the Oleana Restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as the location for their wedding.

Their wedding was a quiet, personal affair attended by only approximately 30 of their closest friends and family.
People magazine, which covered their wedding a few days later, was also present.
“It feels great,” the actress told the tabloid after the wedding.
“Every day, I’m overcome with tears, as if to say, ‘Oh my God, how can it feel any worse than it already does?’ However, it does.”
The actress had one concern heading into her wedding, which is why she wanted it to be secret.
She was terrified she’d start acting at her own wedding.
“I always had this dread of having such a large wedding that I’d feel like I’d be acting or performing because I’ve played a bride on-screen,” she told People just days before the wedding.
“I wanted it to be more poignant and private in real life.”
