Felton Young and Lula Hall raised him.

Felton, his father, used to be a basketball player.

He used to play basketball for Jacksonville University in college. In addition, the Buffalo Braves selected him in the 1978 NBA draft.

Felton began teaching Young to play basketball at a young age.

Even as a child, Thad was fairly tall and strong, therefore he was very excited about sports.

The sportsman used to attend a local Louisiana school and play basketball with his father in their backyard.

Lula, his mother, was a tough and hardworking woman.

Their existence, however, was not simply because they were from a lower-middle-class household.

To feed her family, Lula used to work as a manager at Popeyes Kitchen in New Orleans.

His parents tried to give him as much time as they could from their jobs.

As a result, he was honing his basketball talents while also finding time to practice.

Everything changed, though, when their parents divorced while he was in fourth grade.

Thad and his mother and sisters relocated to Memphis, Tennessee.

He subsequently attended Mitchell High School in Memphis, where he played high school basketball.

Lula supported her family by working at a Memphis-based corporation.

Her children, including Thad, assisted her with home tasks and grew up cheerfully despite the absence of their father.

Young continued to play basketball at Mitchell with the help of his mother.

Tragic attended the Georgia Institute of Technology after graduating from high school to play college basketball and further his education.

Young’s mother died of breast cancer in 2014, at the age of 57.

Secondary School Career

Thad quickly rose to prominence among his teammates after going to the Mitchell School in Memphis.

As a result, he secured a spot on their varsity squad and began competing in tournaments while he was in the eighth school.

His performance was excellent throughout the first year.

He became a much more refined player with the coaches’ coaching and the assistance of his buddies, and he guided his side to multiple significant triumphs.

While still in his junior year, the power forward was regarded as one of the most promising young prospects in the country.

Professional Development

On June 28, 2007, he was selected as the 12th pick in the first round of the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

On November 7, he made his NBA debut against the Charlotte Bobcats, which he won.

However, he did not receive much playing time at first because the team already had veteran shooting guards.

However, after they moved Kyle Korver, he began to play frequently for them on the court.

Thad appeared in 74 games as a rookie, starting 22 of them.

He concluded the season with an 8.2 point and 4.2 rebounds per game average.

He played six more NBA seasons for the 76ers, including four playoffs.

However, he was never able to lead them to the championship ring.

He was eventually traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014.

Despite Thad’s best performance at the time, the Timberwolves gave him virtually little playing time.

He only played 48 games in the 2014-15 season, but his points per game were in the double digits.

He played for the Brooklyn Nets for one season before being moved to the Indiana Pacers in 2016.

Young then spent three seasons with the Pacers. He started every game he played for them while he was there.

Despite his success with the Pacers, he was released after three seasons.
