Tayshaun Prince began to stand out among the crowd of basketball players after joining the varsity team at Dominguez High School in Compton.

The Dominguez team went 96-9 over Prince’s three seasons there, winning the state championship in his junior year.

As a senior in 1998, he was named a McDonald’s All-American.

Tayshaun enrolled in the University of Kentucky after high school and immediately became a member of the Wildcats, a college basketball team.

He played four seasons there and was a regular in the NCAA Tournament.

As a junior, Price was named SEC Player of the Year and to the Associated Press All-SEC Teams.

He was named Most Valuable Player in the 2001 tournament and a three-time team MVP as the Wildcats won the SEC Tournament twice — in 1999 and 2001.

The Detroit Pistons selected him with the 23rd pick in the first round of the NBA draft.

Prince won the NBA title in 2004 after a remarkable defensive play.

Following that, Detroit renewed his contract for another five years.
