Srikant was pushed into sports by his tough older brother, but he was not concerned with training and nutrition.

But, sooner or later, Srikanth improved, and they were spotted in Visakhapatanam within months.

Srikanth was brought to the academy because his brother was already there, just like Asian practices.

Srikanth is grateful to his brother Nandagopal for encouraging him to a badminton career.

Badminton was the focus of the athletes’ attention. Srikanth felt that after traveling such a long distance, he should give it his all.

Glory

Pullela Gopichand, the owner of the Gopichand Academy, perceived a lack of focus and participation in Srikanth.

Similarly, as a trainee, Gopichand advised him to focus more on the game, particularly singles.

Srikanth realized he needed to concentrate more on the lines and sides of the court than the center.

Even though it took some time for him to acclimatize, once he began winning singles, success came easily to him.

Simultaneously, Srikanth achieved his maiden singles and doubles titles at the All India International Badminton Championships in Pune in 2011, after receiving an international break.

He won his first singles title at the Maldives International Challenge a year later.

Srikanth also won his first-ever singles title at the Senior National Badminton Championships in 2013, defeating Parupali Kashyap.

He also finished second at the Indian Grand Prix Gold in January 2014. Parupali Kashyap defeated him again in 2015 at the Shed Modi International.

After a year, though, he won the event and made up for that loss.

Srikanth also won two gold medals in the South Asian Games in Guwahati in 2016 in Men’s Singles and Team.

In the same year, the Indian Men’s team had to settle for bronze in Hyderabad after losing in the semi-final. He, on the other hand, went undefeated in the Asian Team Championship.

He also won the Men’s team gold medal in the 2019 South Asian Games in Kathmandu, Nepal.

However, the Indians will have to go to Seattle for the Asian Team Championships in Manila in 2020.

Rise and Shine

The first Indian to win four Super Series championships in a single season.

Kidambi Srikanth became the first Indian and only fourth male shuttle in history to win four Super Series titles in a calendar year, defeating Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto.

He stunned Nishimoto by defeating him 21-14, 21-13, and then winning the French Open Super Series.

Shrikanth won the Denmark Open Series Premier, Indonesia Super Series Premier, and Australian Open Super Series in the same year.

Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, and Chen Long, in addition to Shrikanth, won men’s singles titles at four Super Series events.

He won back-to-back Super Series victories in Denmark, France, Indonesia, and Australia in June 2017.

Playing Technique

Shrinkanth from Guntur, who is only 29, has always had an aggressive style of play.

His jump-smashes are entertaining to watch, and that’s part of what makes his antics so appealing.

However, his ability to make points has improved and progressed in his characteristic energy.

Shrikanth had previously implied his entire power, but more recently he has specifically created attacking opportunities.

The winner, like the winner of the Denmark Open, did not attack constantly but instead moved the opponent around, opened angles, and finally jumped and smashed.

Srikanth has been criticized on occasion for his patience rather than his talent.

With more calm and Patience, he seems more focused on his shots and just eager to kill the game. Relating more to deceptive shots, Shrikanth was not so much into it.

Later after the arrival of Indonesian coach Mulyo Handoyo, he confirmed that they are particularly focusing on his fitness and skills.

However, they were looking for longevity too. Despite being new to deceptive playing, he has started showing a flair for it.

Even chief national coach Pullela Gopichand kept insisting that young shuttlers players like Shrikant are still on their way to reaching their potential.

With such motives, sparks on him are smoothly turning into a stable light.
