- Richard Gere and actress Shilpa Shetty shared the stage
The Indian legal system is notoriously sluggish. Since 2007, an Indian court has been hearing the obscenity lawsuit involving Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
Now, this pointless case was dismissed last week. Shilpa was absolved of all allegations by the judge.
The religiously fanatical petitioner wasted both national resources and important court time that could have been used to resolve more urgent issues.

Shilpa Shetty was exonerated of 2007 obscenity allegations
Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty shared the stage in 2007 for an AIDS awareness event.
Richard Gere gave her cheek many kisses at that point.
Both celebrities were accused of demeaning “Indian ideals” by Hindu right-wing organizations who took offense.
For the past 15 years, the court has been hearing the case against Shilpa.
Now, it was resolved in a Bombay court last week.
The court’s ruling became well known.
The Judge ruled that Shilpa’s accusation was unfounded.
Richard Gere made unwanted romantic approaches to her. The command read:
“Shilpa Shetty appears to be the target of Richard Gere, accuser’s number one alleged’s crime,”
Shilpa did not yet reply to this court order in the media.
Shilpa’s attorney claimed that the case was built on the fact that she did not object when the co-accused kissed her.
The lawyer continued:
“By no means does this make her a part of any crime’s conspiracy or its perpetrator,”
The 2007 incident
The incident took place at an AIDS awareness event in 2007.
Shilpa Shetty shared the stage with Hollywood A-lister Richard Gere during the event, which attracted a large number of celebrities.
Richard kissed Shilpa’s hand at that very time, drew her in, and gave her a deep hug.
Later, he gave her cheek several kisses.
The video footage was seen by India’s fanatical religious organizations, which ignited a firestorm there.
They said that both celebrities had offended the “country of Kama sutra’s principles” in a severe way.
The fanatic-instigated controversy, according to Shilpa at the time, was unjustified, and Richard’s conduct in no way compromised Indian principles.

Regarding Richard Gere
The Hollywood actor Richard expressed regret for the raucous conduct and explained that it was meant to show that kissing is a safe activity and does not carry AIDS.
Richard was swiftly cleared of all accusations.
He is a Buddhist, and in 2010 he received approval to travel to India and meet the Dalai Lama at Dharamshala.
Shilpa rose to stardom when she participated in the British television program Celebrity Big Brother.
This also occurred in 2007 and was accompanied by bullying and racial remarks on the program.
She had, however, won that CBB season.
