- Television director David DeLuise explained Gomez’s decision to decline the role of Mitchie.
- DeLuise revealed in an interview with the Wildchats Sports Podcast on Monday, November 7, that Gomez was the first choice and that if she declined, Lovato would get the part, so she passed on the part.
- “They offered camp rock to Selena, and she knew that if she passed on it, Demi would get the part,” DeLuise explained.
- Lovato and Gomez’s relationship is no longer as close; Lovato revealed to Harper’s Bazaar that their relationship has soured.
Selena Gomez could have played Mitchie Torres in Disney’s musical television film Camp Rock alongside the Jonas Brothers instead of Demi Lovato. According to Disney Channel’s Gary Marsh, Selena Gomez was the first choice for the role of Mitchie, but “she wasn’t ready to explore that part of her gift yet and wanted to build her acting base first.”

Demi Lovato discusses landing the role in ‘Camp Rock’
On the Call Her Daddy podcast on August 24, Lovato discussed the beginning of her career on the network, referring to it as “the golden era of Disney.”
If you’ve forgotten, Jonas had two seasons on the Disney Channel between 2009 and 2010.
It followed the JoBros as they juggled their lives as regular adolescent boys with their responsibilities as influential pop singers.
Lovato was qualified to play Stella Malone, their closest friend, but actress Chelsea Kane won the role.
“I remember being disappointed when I didn’t get it. “I was heartbroken,” the ‘Don’t Forget‘ singer admitted.
However, she was offered roles in two other films, Sonny with a Chance and Camp Rock, and she, of course, accepted both.
“So like that, for me, was like, I get my own movie and my own TV show?” the singer explained. Are you serious? As in, on the Disney Channel?”
Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato met while waiting in line
Before becoming international superstars, actors, musicians, and social media personalities, Selena Gomez and Lovato were just two little kids waiting in line for a Barney audition.
The ‘Lose You to Love Me’ singer reportedly stated that she will “never forget” the first time she met Lovato, a fellow Disney star and occasionally close friend.
In promotion of the next season of her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, Gomez recently discussed her childhood stardom, including the time she met a fellow singer, on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.
Selena Gomez claimed that she and Lovato were two of seven kids chosen from a pool of approximately 1,500 during her first audition for the Barney crew.

“The most bizarre part of that story is that she was the girl standing in front of me. “I remember she was wearing a red bow, and I’ll never forget it,” Gomez said.
However, Lovato and Gomez’s relationship is no longer as close; Lovato revealed to Harper’s Bazaar that their relationship has soured.
“When you grow up with someone, you’re always going to have love for them,” said the Sonny with a Chance actress. But I’m not friends with her,” and I’ll always love her, and I wish everyone the best.”
