Uncensored chats between Sandra Bullock and her Black children

On November 30, 2021, Bullock appeared on the Red Table Talk program

with host Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith to discuss the difficulties of raising her Black children,

admitting that there are times when she wishes their skin tones “matched.”

During the program, the Ocean 8 actress said, “To say that I wanted our skins matched…

sometimes I do because it would be easier on how people approached us.”

She went on to say that she feels the same way as a woman of brown skin

carrying brown children or a white mother carrying white children.

Willow joined in to say that a difference in skin tone has no effect or

alters the relationship between a parent and their child.

During Willow’s remarks, the actress rejoined the debate,

expressing hope that one day that will disappear and people will be able to see the world through new eyes.

Bullock told the Grio that she had a difficult but necessary conversation

about racial profiling with her kid when he was six years old after observing that he was wearing a hoodie.

The mother of two recounted her 6-year-old son wearing a hoodie and saying, “We’re going to have a chat.” It’s not the same for you.”

She questioned Louis about what he was doing with the hoodie, and he said, “Well, I look like I’m hiding.”

Bullock then asked her son if he had anything to hide,

to which he said that he had not, and she told him that he did not need to wear the hoodie outside.

She also taught her son that people are afraid of brown people

and will behave differently toward them than toward white children.
