Trying to Get a Scholarship
Sam spent a year after graduating from high school at Hargrave Military Academy since his high school grades required him to spend a year at a prep school in order to qualify for a scholarship.
For a 28–1 team that finished second nationally among prep school teams, Samuel averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds per game. In 2005, Young was named National Prep School Player of the Year.
