The start of my cricketing adventure

Sachin attended the Indian Education Society’s New English School while studying under Ramakant.

However, after observing his natural game, the coach suggested he transfer to Sharadashram Vidyamandir (English) High School.

Ramakant trained Sachin in the morning and evening at Shivaji Park.

He moved near the park to reside with his uncle due to a hectic schedule.

Sachin spent hours practicing in the net after finishing his training.

If he became fatigued, the coach tossed a coin onto the stumps, and whoever discharged him got to keep it.

However, if Sachin finished the session without getting kicked out, he would receive the coin. He speaks about receiving 13 coins.

Sachin was regarded as a kid prodigy with an average conservation player in cricket.

He played Kanga League cricket for John Bright cricket club in addition to scholastic cricket tournaments.

He got 15 runs in his first game.

On the 14th of August 1990, during India’s tour of England, he achieved his first test century against England.

In the second test, he scored an undefeated 119 runs.

Similarly, before the 1992 World Cup, he scored 148 not out against Australia, becoming the youngest player ever to do so.

Ascend to fame

Sachin’s career peaked while he was in his early twenties. On September 9, 1994, he scored his first ODI century (110) against Australia.

Later, at the 1996 ICC World Cup, he finished as the tournament’s leading scorer, with two centuries. However, his squad was defeated in the semi-finals by Sri Lanka.

Later that year, during Australia’s tour of India, Sachin struck three consecutive test centuries.

Furthermore, on April 11, 1998, he recorded his first five-wicket haul in an ODI, ending with 5/32 in ten overs.

Sachin’s father died during the 1991 Cricket World Cup. He returned home, skipping the game against Zimbabwe to attend his father’s funeral rites.

After returning, he hit an unbroken 140 against Kenya, dedicating his century to his late father.

Sachin was given a one-match ban for ball-tampering during India’s tour of South Africa in 2001.

Sachin achieved a record-breaking 35th test century against Sri Lanka on December 10, 2005.

Difficult Times

Tendulkar batted in the bottom of the order in the 2007 World Cup, scoring 64 runs in three matches as India was eliminated from the group stage.

After a disastrous World Cup campaign, Sachin considered retiring, but Vic Richards and Ajit Tendulkar persuaded him to continue playing.

Later, against South Africa in the Future Cup, Sachin became the first batter to score 15,000 ODI runs.

Similarly, in the second test match of India’s tour of Australia, Sachin scored 88 runs to break Brian Lara’s then-record for most test runs.

Sachin scored 200 not out against South Africa on February 24, 2010, becoming the first man cricketer to do so.

Champion of the World

Sachin finally won cricket’s most prized title in 2011, when India overcame Sri Lanka in the finals.

He stated that winning the World Cup was the proudest event in his career.

He was India’s leading run-scorer, with 482 runs, including two centuries, and an average of 53.55 runs.

Sachin became the first and only batsman to amass 15,000 test runs on November 8, 2011.

The Mumbai Indians

Rajya Sabha Nomination for Retirement and Outside Cricket

Sachin was appointed to the Rajya Sabha by the Indian President in April.

He later took the oath of office on June 4th.

Sachin quit international cricket on October 10, 2013, following a test series victory over the West Indies at home.

As per his request, the BCCI scheduled both test matches in Kolkata and Mumbai. In his final innings, he scored 74 runs.

To commemorate Sachin’s retirement, India Today hosted a day-long Saalam Sachin Conclave, during which various national and international cricketers, politicians, and Bollywood luminaries spoke about him.

He did, however, retire from one-day internationals on December 23, 2012, following a dismal performance in England’s tour of India.
