Who is Ryan Reid?
Ryan Reid is a famous Basketball Player. Ryan Reid is an American-born Jamaican professional basketball player for the Kanazawa Samuraiz of the Japanese B.League.
He most recently played in the French LNB Pro B League for the Quimper-based club Beliers de Kemper.
Despite his success in the NBA draft in 2010, Reid was never able to participate in a regular-season game.
The Indiana Pacers drafted him, but he was quickly traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He wasn’t the sort to give up easily, so he moved abroad to try his luck in foreign professional leagues.
He played four seasons of college basketball for the Florida State Seminoles before beginning his professional career.
Except for his high school years, Ryan has not been particularly spectacular.
Perhaps his poor performance is due to a lack of opportunity, but no one in their right mind would celebrate his performance.
Despite playing every season in college, he never truly progressed as a player.
People who know him well, on the other hand, commend him for his work ethic and defensive ability.
Some have even suggested that the Indiana Pacers drafted him for these reasons.
We all know what his current career path looks like. Of course, he had not intended to become what he eventually became.
Childhood, Family, and Education
Ryan Rupert Reid, better known as Ryan Reid, was born on October 30, 1986, in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, USA.
Kenneth and Jasmine Mullings, both from Florida, raised him.
There isn’t much information about his parents online, therefore it’s unclear why Ryan has the surname Reid when his parents have the surname Mullings.
Reid was up in Lauderdale Lakes and had a simple upbringing.
His parents did not have college degrees, so they had to work low-wage jobs to make ends meet.
They did, however, always make sure Ryan was happy.
Furthermore, they enrolled him in a public school near their Florida home for his early education.
They wished for their child to have an excellent education and a prosperous future with high-paying employment so that he would not end up like them.
Reid was aware of his parents’ troubles and aspired to make them proud one day, but he struggled in school. Mathematics was his most difficult subject.
Unlike in school, he was usually upbeat while participating in sports, especially basketball.
His tall stature and athletic body may have contributed to his interest in extracurricular sports.
He enrolled at Florida State University (FSU) in 2006 after graduating from Boyd Anderson School.
In 2010, he graduated from FSU with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences.
He is the first member of his family to graduate from college.
High School Basketball Career
Ryan Reid attended Boyd H. Anderson High School in his hometown and played high school basketball there.
Reid was a member of the Tallahassee Wildcats, which competed in AAU competitions.
Reid was taller than his usual teammates, therefore he started most games as a center.
During his professional career, he became skilled in the power forward position and also played in the forward positions.
His freshman season was not particularly outstanding.
Ryan school’s head coach believed he was capable of turning the tables.
He began catching up from his sophomore season, as planned.
In the previous three seasons, he was one of his school’s leading scorers and rebounders in numerous tournaments. Reid finished his senior year with 18.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game on average.
College Life
Reid chose Florida State University in Tallahassee over Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Houston, and other universities in 2006 because it was closer to his home.
Another factor was that he had heard so much about Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton.
His first season with the Seminoles was a disaster. He never started the game, although he appeared in all 35 games that season, averaging 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Ryan had greater playing time as a sophomore, but his performance did not improve significantly.
In his second season, he averaged 5.0 rebounds per game but only 5.6 points per game.
His previous two seasons were similarly dreadful.
Despite the fact that he graduated in 2010 and was thus immediately eligible for the NBA draft, no one expected he would make it to the league based on his stats.
Professional Development
Surprisingly, the Indiana Pacers selected Ryan as the 57th choice in the second round of the 2010 NBA draft.
They didn’t want to hold him any longer, so they quickly sold the draft rights to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder club management believed Ryan Reid has exceptional defensive skills that would be useful to the Thunder in the upcoming season.
So they put him through his paces in the 2010 Orlando Summer League.
Reid appeared in four games, averaging 8.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Unfortunately, the Thunder changed their minds and released him before he had even played a single game.
Ryan, on the other hand, was a member of the Tulsa 66ers in the 2010-11 NBA G League, where he appeared in 48 games and averaged 5.8 rebounds per game.
He joined the French club Chorale Roanne in 2012 and spent two seasons in the LNB Pro A.
He had previously played for the Puerto Rican team Mets de Guaynabo.
Ryan joined the Japanese team Niigata Albirex BB in the Japanese B League for the 2015-16 season after spending a season with SLUC Nancy in the French league.
Reid also had a brief appearance in the NBL Canada in 2018.
Ryan played for the Béliers de Kemper in the LNB Pro B in the 2021-2022 season.
He is now unattached to any team and has made no appearances in 2022.
