In October 2019, Farah tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone and then was suspended from games starting on January 14, 2020.

To elaborate, Farah first gave his urine sample as part of an Out-of-Competition testing mission on 17 October 2019.

When the sample was tested in World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”) accredited laboratory in Montreal, Canada, they found Boldenone.

According to category S1 of the 2019 WADA Prohibited List, positive testing of such substances prohibits tennis players in the games.

On January 11, 2020, they charged Farah with an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under Article 2.1 of the Programme.

Anyways, Farah stated that his positive test for the substance was because of the contaminated meat he had, which contained the use of Boldenone by Colombian farmers to boost growth in cows.

Furthermore, he had the right to contend why he should not be temporarily prevented from competing. However, he chose not to exercise that right.
